Do you always book with insurance?

I've taken plenty of vacations, but most are beach-type vacations and insurance isn't necessary or even offered. Seems like I should book a WDW vacation with insurance...just in case...but was wondering if you all could tell me you always do so or not?

I've never taken the trip insurance for any trip WDW or not. We even have had to cancel twice within the 45 days and were not cancelled b/c of emergency situations. Once we cancelled a room within 48 hours of check in b/c of hurricaines in the area and were not charged a dime. I figure if a true emergency happens and I'm giong to have to cancel I'll just be out the $200 deposit within 45 days, but you can also change your dates within 45 days of arrival (sometimes subject to $50 change fee) and move your trip to dates that work for you. B/c of this flexiiblity and our personal experience cancelling trips w/ Disney and knowing that they have worked w/ us in the past I dont feel that the insurance is necesssary.

I usually never do insurance when I first book because you can always add it on upto 45 days out and if you cancel your trip you lose the money. My last trip we were 90 days out but for some reason I did take the trip insurance we lost that money so if you want it I would call when youare 46 days out and add it on just in case. ;)

Thanks for the feedback! Just to be clear...I can decline the insurance initially and it can be added up to the 45 day mark which is when we'd need to have the trip paid in full anyways?

Just need to make sure I know what I'm signing up for!

It can be added up until your final payment.

I'm the type that always adds the insurance up front when I book because I feel fairly confident about our trips. If you do cancel the trip you do not get refunded on the insurance portion so it's a "gamble" sometimes. My TA mentioned something to me this past time that impacted another guest she had and she wanted to mention it. I was actually going to wait and add it to the current trip later down the road and she reminded me if something happened prior to the insurance being added then we would not be covered if we had to cancel the trip for that reason. The example she gave was a client who had booked a trip and did NOT add insurance up front and then the client ended up having a car accident. The client had several months to recuperate but apparently as his/her trip got closer he/she didn't feel they could make the trip and had to cancel. Because the insurance was not "active" during the car accident, he/she wasn't covered. This is also the reason why you're not refunded after a certain amount of days because you're basically "covered" for whatever might happen between when you add it and take the trip.

I added it for this reason so I wouldn't have to worry about the "what if's". Hope this helps! :thumbsup2

I would rather have it than not have it.

I agree. Just like every other types of insurance you get it "just in case." You never know what can happen in life. We always book with it just for the peace of mind.

For us, we have never purchased it, never will, and were somewhat surprised when we first realized it was offered. If you can change your dates, you can do that with either no penalty or a $50 penalty if you're over 45 days, up to something like 10 days out (can't recall specifics). If worse comes to worse, you lose the $200 deposit, which I don't think is that much more than insurance costs.

If it makes you feel better, then it may be worth it to you. For us, we'd rather take our chances and save that money. We see it as an unnecessary add on.

We always get the trip insurance. For us it's worth spending the $140.00 for peace of mind. One year we were so glad that we had it because we had no choice but to cancel due to a family illness and we were unsure at that time if we would be able to re-schedule the trip. You have to weigh the options of whether it is a good choice for you or not. For some it doesn't make sense and for other it's does not.

This may be able to help you out. :flower3:

If you get it shop around. Disney's is not the best policy and you can find more coverage thru other places. I forget who we went with last year, but the coverage was much better and for slightly cheaper too.
