If anybody's interested in trying reading through the Bible Chronologically, here's a link to a plan to do that (along with several other ways to read through the Bible):

Great link ~ thank you!! :thumbsup2
I have read almost the entire Bible but it has been too long since I have sat down and read it like a book. This will be a nice help in getting back on track with that :sunny:

I voted that I have in the past.

I didn't stop because I don't like it, I just don't have time to read anything anymore (except children's books to my girls ;) )

Like robinb, I too used to read it regularly, attending Episcopal K-12 and going to chapel for Christian studies daily, but now, am an atheist. When you are immersed in the Bible like I was in my early formative years, through high school, the stories stay with you for the rest of your life. It drives my recently born again FIL, who has lived a pretty immoral life until recently and is now a serious "Bible thumper", crazy that I know the Bible so well and still choose not to believe. Obviously, I no longer read it, but do look back on alot of the lessons and experiences with the church fondly.

I have tried Bible Studies--but way above my comprehension (I do not enjoy reading lesiurely...so ready for study of anything...is a big effort).

We have a childrens Bible that we are reading as part of our homeschool curriculum. I have learned much more from that than any Bible study I attended. It has opened my eyes up a bit to the history.

If I include that, it means I read the bible much more often than I responded.

It might take me years before I can get into a study and comprehend (to the point of recall) what I read reasonably from a regular Bible.

I don't read it as much as I used to. I need to get back to it on a more regular basis. Lately I have felt somewhat separated from God. :guilty: And like Aidensmom, I jump around depending on the issue.

I'd like to get into the Old Testament a little more. Maybe I should get a study guide for that.

Miss Jasmine, I think you'd like a study called , "A Woman's Heart, God's Dwelling Place" by Beth Moore. There is a workbook for 5 days and a video that you would do once a week in a group setting but you could do the study on your own w/o the video. It is OT and gave me a true love for OT studies.

I try to read every day but ususally don't make that goal each week. I used to before I found the DIS but in free time I usually check on-line instead. :guilty:

I love reading the Bible and love even more to study it. If I could do that for a living, I'd be a happy camper! :goodvibes

I agree with Cardaway. Reading the Bible as a unbeliever and then as a believer is an amazing experience.

If God has opened your eyes and your heart then reading the Bible and getting something out of it is just an awesome experience. You learn who God is, what His nature is, about the history of the people and how truly they were much like any believer today. You learn what pleases God, what is displeasing, you learn how to live in today's world, how to deal with life and the ups and the downs it brings, raising kids, loving others, dealing with grief, leaning on God... I just find that it is the most amazing book and sad to say I don't take advantage of reading it enough.

Buckalew, thank you for the suggestion. I will check that out! :sunny:

Almost always daily. It's what I pick up at night to read before I go to bed, and I even do so on vacation :)

However my light I use is dying so it's been a few since I've been able to at night. I need to get new batteries as I haven't read anything before bed in over a week

I've taken the Disciple Bible study courses many times over the last 10 years (6 or 7 different courses). Through those courses, I've read about 90-95% of the Bible. I've also read the Books of the Apochrypha. No flames as to whether the Apochrypha is (or is not) part of the Bible - that's not the topic of this thread.

It's been a couple of years now since I've last rigorously studied the Bible. I can't remember the last time I've quoted from the Bible. I feel that unless one knows EXACTLY the Scripture verse, INCLUDING THE CONTEXT OF THE VERSE, a single Bible verse can be twisted to say just about anything. I personally don't think that I know (or understand) the Bible well enough to be using it as a debating crutch. So from my point of view, you might as well be throwin' Dubya quotes out there to 'prove' your point.

I didn't do the poll, because there wasn't really an option that fits me.

I read the Bible regularly, and I am in the process of reading through it in order. I think we often focus more on the New Testament than the Old Testament, so it has been good for me to start in the Old Testament.

I've read it many times over the course of my Catholic schooling. I like reading the OT - it's got great stories and I find it more interesting reading as a whole than the NT. I don't read it to study or meditate on it though.

I have read the OT and am now reading thru the NT. I don't read everyday, though. I also like to read "The Bible for Dummies" - it's breaks the Bible down like a fraction - or as Denzel would say, it explains it to me like "I"m a two year old".

i am not religious, but i read the bible occasionally. maybe like 4 times/year. i have a student bible that was a gift from a friend many years ago that i really like.

I try to read it daily, but do fall asleep before getting to it sometimes. I inherited my Dad's EZ read bible with the BIG words so I can read it easily without my glasses.

I remember a guy telling me that if you read one Proverb and 2 Psalms a day it will change your life. It Has!!

I read the Bible regularly (I won't be more specific so as to honor the goal of anonymity). I think you are on to something... Biblical illetracy is a huge issue in churches all over the US. People just don't know the book they profess to live by.

very well said :thumbsup2

I do read the bible daily, I've found that it makes a difference in my christian walk. The more I read the bible and pray the more 'in tune' I feel with God and the happier I am in life.
Like many of you guys I tend to jump around when reading the bible. I'll read from Isaiah one day and from I Timothy the next. What is amazing is how frequently the scriptures that I pick to read correspond so closely to things that are going on in my life right then.

one thing about this topic --
I always pray before I open the bible and it is like words jump off off the page ---- it is like I am guided where I need to be

I personally only read the Kings James version and I always ask for guidance to help me interpet the bible the way if fits to me.

I answered 'a couple times a week' & sadly I have to admit, it's only because of helping my DS with his homework. DS attends a Catholic school & gets Religion homework a couple times a week & we have to read or hunt for certian scriptures so that is really the only time I read the bible.

I've read most of it at some point in my life, but not all. I don't read it on a regular basis, but I do turn to it when I have questions and feel led to do so.
