Do you actually need a park ticket to stay at Swan and Dolphin?

Can you book a room at the Swan and Dolphin without a park ticket? If so can you still walk around the boardwalk area, just not actually into Hollywood Studios and Epcot?

Asking because my plane gets in late and I would rather not burn a park day if I don't have to.

Yes, anybody can book any room at Walt Disney World and make a vacation of it without ever going in a park. You can walk anywhere and visit any hotel, use Disney transportation and enjoy Disney Springs. You can also make reservations to eat at any restaurant outside of a park.

Yes, as stated above, you certainly don't need a park ticket to stay there. Actually, the S&D location is quite convenient -you have access to the Boardwalk area, you can walk to Fantasia Mini Golf, and the resort itself is very nice.

No resort on property requires a park ticket. My understanding is that upcoming Star Cruiser Resort sends you to HS without the guest having a park ticket.

Ok thanks. Maybe I was confused because I initially went with a travel agent and was going to stay at POP but she said I was required to have a ticket for her to even put in the reservation. So I bought a ticket, she linked it, then she made the reservation. Not sure if this was a Covid thing or what.

No, nobody needs a park ticket for a resort reservation. You only need a park ticket for a park reservation (to get into the park), or fast passes (which they are not currently doing).

Change your TA now. Just wow

Don't use that TA again...ever.

That's just bizarre. As others have said, it is absolutely not required to have a park ticket to stay in any resort at WDW, offsite or even Universal, for that matter. Sounds to me that TA wanted you to make a commissionable, non-refundable purchase from him/her prior to working with you - not good.

I imagine Disney has probably done packages in the past that require park tickets if you want the hotel at a certain rate. However, the S&D is not a Disney Resort so that doesn't make much sense. Your TA should have explained why a ticket was necessary. There's a few possibilities about why they might have said that:
1. They are brand new and got confused
2. They don't do much Disney business
3. They were being purposefully deceitful in trying to get you to spend more money
In any of those cases the correct answer is find a new TA.

The only time a Disney park ticket is currently required for a hotel stay is, as others have said, as a requirement for a particular rate, such as Free Dining. But no one is required to buy at a particular rate (unless only rack rate is available).

In the future, Disney may require that people staying at the Star Wars hotel purchase entry to DHS.

I've booked at Disney resorts when I've flown through Orlando but wasn't visiting the park.

Me and a bunch of coworkers were in Orlando for a conference a few years back. No park tickets stays both on and off property, I had everyone meet up at Wilderness Lodge for drinks and then we did the monorail crawl, walked around resorts and even rode the boat over to Fort Wilderness. We watched the fireworks from the California Grill. (no reservation we just asked to go up and get drinks in the lounge area).

Plenty of stuff to do without a ticket and WDW is happy to have you spend money wherever you are on property.
