do wheelchairs go through regular lines?

my husband will be in a wheelchair when we go to disney in june. he just had ankle surgery yesterday. right now it looks like he will be just getting off no weight bearing status a couple weeks before. we are grandparents that will be trying to keep up with our grandchildren. i thought of renting a scooter for him but waiting in long lines might take a toll on him when we park the scooter. so then i thought if i rented a wheel chair, i could just push him through the lines. sorry for rambling.......any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Scooters can go through most ride lines just like wheelchairs. You can then park the scooter near the ride in a designated area. Then, you do a short walk to get on the ride. You can even let him get on the ride first and then you can park the scooter if you need to save a few more steps. On most rides it might be 20 strides to get to the ride from where you park it. After the ride you get back on your scooter. For a few rides the CM will move the scooter for you to get it to the end of the ride. This is for the rides that don't start and finish at the same point.

The only advantage with a wheelchair is on a few rides they allow a wheelchair on the ride itself; whereas, scooters are not ever allowed on the rides.

I would go with a scooter. He will have more freedom and control with one and you won't be tired from pushing a wheelchair all day. The average trek around a Disney Park is 6 miles and some do 12.

All WDW lines/attractions are accessible to wheelchairs to the point of boarding. In most cases, this is thru the regular line.

There are some attractions that are not ECV accessible. For those, he would have the option of walking in line - ASK the CM how far the distance will be. 'Not far' or 'a few steps' are much different to a healthy young person than someone struggling with walking. So, ask for number of feet.
Those attractions that are not ECV accessible do have attraction wheelchairs that can be borrowed. Ask the CM at the ride entrance

most rides scooter can go in the line but there are a few that you need to use a wheelchair. I would get the scooter and plan on taking that in the lines. I would also look at an offsite rental for the savings on rental costs
