Do we really believe Pandora will open in the summer?

You should never plan a trip around a ride opening...never ever ever

They don't care...so you should train yourself not to either. The philosophy on that end is "if they just miss it...then we make double revenue if they feel compelled to come back"

I'm not even kidding about that...that is the goal of the legions of sales and numbers people.

So that being said...I'll give them an optimistic 60/40 shot that they get in open by 7/4/16.

On the other hand...I don't see them getting the toy story gig open in MGM next year...nor Star Wars the following

Its not supposed to anyways. 2018 for TSL 2019/20 for SWL.

Don't know why you don't think Avatar couldn't be open by July 4th. If you compare the cars land (the closest thing we have to this) we are right on pace for a May or June opening. That of course barring any major ride setbacks that haven't been discovered yet and the rides are in early testing.

Wasn't there all kinds of "buzz" about six months ago about how MGM was "fast tracked" for early openings? I might have imagined that...

And why don't I believe schedules, timelines, or elaborate budgets discussed on web boards?

...come on...say it with me...

I'm being fair on the avatar thing: the budget was all wrong and it's a money pit - as expected up front...and I think they want it open ASAP now...but you can't expect them to hit any point on the calendar with it. So saying I give them a good chance to open in the first 6 months of 2017 is very fair.

You're seeing something here I'm not saying.

Both these rides are very technical.... until they start testing the full ride system, it's hard to say what kind of setbacks there could be.

A lot can happen in six months, it's just that Disney has developed a "history" of needing more time than they planned (which they have already done with this project).

I agree but as of right now they are on schedule. Of course things can change. I'll be the first one to say that.

I know Rivers of Light is WAAAAAAAAAAY overdue now... How much confidence do people have that Pandora will be ready to go this summer?

I have a cruise booked with a night at AKL beforehand in late-mid-August (the 18th, cruise on the 19th), and made the possible mistake of playing "what if I decided to just do a WDW stay for the whole time" (airfare is booked, so the dates are pretty firm) and discovered that I could actually do a Value Studio at AKL with single-park tickets (at 9 days I would not need to hop) AND the Dining Plan (possibly Deluxe, but I didn't really look at that) for LESS than the cruise is.

BUT... I really want to be able to experience Pandora, so I'm unsure if I should just look at booking a different time for WDW and keeping the cruise. I wouldn't be happy to change everything and then they keep pushing back the opening.

Based on the current progress I see no reason this couldn't be open by August 2017, with that said, you should never try to make plans around whether a new ride/attraction will be open, there are just to many things that can go wrong.

At least you'll have a better chance of AL opening before ROL does...:rolleyes1popcorn::

Ohhhhh, you rabble-rouser you! :stir:

I'm just glad I got my lotus flower popcorn bucket and lantern mug in August.

.........:rotfl2:

I'm sure that would've cost you $159.00 w/ the DVC/AP discount of course.......:teacher:.

Hey I'm just glad that there are talks of it even opening TBH. When I was in AK on 11/09 There was a CM working the queue line @ KRR & he stated that ROL was to be put on the shelf, for a very long while...I asked him why & he replied" It costs way too much to operate." I said Shouldn't they have thought about that Loong Looong ago. I also asked why no extension on the temporary show--(J/Book) to his reply, ":crazy2: Are you kiddin me, It's worse than a cheap c rated Bollywood rip-off.....

To me I thought something woulda been better than nothing....Maybe he was an angry ex performer or something who lost his acting part:confused3.
What do I know , but I didn't really think for 1 minute that they would wasted there $$$ and had No shows...

It's was much less than I expected compared to other popcorn buckets and it lights up. As does the lantern, but they might not sell those anymore since the show is missing it's 100 floating lanterns........... I took them to the Jungle Book Alive (oh the pain, not even all my Nomad drinks dulled it) and put them on the empty seats in front of us and let them twinkle. I figured I would contribute my own Light to the River.

PS If he lost his acting part in JBA, I'm sure he's thankful. Those performers were trying their best with what they had but they had these frozen "yeah, I'm having fun, yeah" kind of looks.

Oh I think you were subconsciously teasing me because I booked Highway in the Sky with NO discount ...... and I am not bothered by "tent city". But yes, I thought they were quite reasonable and wished I bought 2 of each ............. I mean they are tied to RoL and who knows, they may become rare collectables. :rolleyes1

Um you can't call this test track yet. Also Disney gave a season not an opening date so they have a large range of dates to get it open by. I see no reason to believe the land won't be open in that time frame. The rides are already in early testing.

You are missing the point completely. If you are planning a vacation to see a new land, ride, or experience, there were thousands that did that for Test Track and how did that work out??? Rivers of Light??? <Insert others here>?

My point is to wait until it is actually open and then plan a vacation. Disney may get most of the bugs worked out by then and you may even have smaller lines a year later.

I'm not missing the point. I highly doubt thousands planned a vacation for test track. If they did they shouldn't have. You should never book a vacation specifically for something opening.

Seeing that you joined the boards about 4 years ago you would not have seen the HUNDREDS of posts and threads from 1998 and 1999 about this.

It shouldn't matter when I joined. Hundreds of posts doesn't equal thousands of people booking vacations specifically for Test Track to open. The amount of people on the DIS that are in the parks on a daily basis is very small.

Since you clearly believe you are right, without having any idea what happened in the past, I will no longer engage you on this subject. Have a great day. I guess I shouldn't expect better behavior from a moderator.

I am sorry if that came across as rude but you can't say thousands booked vacations in anticipation of a Test Track opening when you don't have any actual numbers. I don't doubt at all that some did book vacations in hopes to be there for the opening but I do have a hard time believing that thousands did.
