When my sister and I stayed at Pop in 2005 we did not have to request connecting rooms because we had two adults and 5 children. It was listed on our reservation with out requesting it.
I was wondering if things have changed. My dh and myself reserved two rooms at AkL and I was wondering if I should call and request connecting rooms. My children are 15,12,9,4.

Yes, I would definately call...otherwise, they may assign you rooms w/ one adult with 2 children in each room.:scared:

From what I understand you can request all you want but that wont guarantee you will get it.Since there are 2 adults in your party they can split you up with one adult in each room. Now remeber I'm only repeating what I've read from other DISers in the same position.Hopefully you can get connecting rooms.I wish you Good Luck.:upsidedow

All I personally have seen so far seems to indicate that connecting rooms are guaranteed only to parties consisting of one adult and several minor children.

If there are two adults, they could split the rooms and still have one adult in each room, so they won't guarantee for that. But definitely make a request.

Call and request it. You will be told that it's not guaranteed. However, Disney does everything in its power to get you connecting rooms, especially when both rooms are under the same name. We've had all adult parties before and requested connecting rooms and have gotten them. There is a small chance that you wont get them but it's a very small chance. What you can do just to cover all your bases is to request connecting rooms saying that is very important to you (stress VERY) but if that is not available, you'll take adjoining rooms. But stress you really want the connecting rooms.

I talked to my dh about the reservation and he said that they told him that because of the ages of the children we will be guarenteed connecting rooms. But i will call and request it anyway

I agree...very small chance you will not get it given that you are a "family." Don't be discouraged by the negative "what ifs." :)

Something else about yoru post caught my eye though---they no longer allow 1 person to have 2 rooms in their name anymore. (Unless they are planning a gathering or event.) We found this out in July--they refused to let my mother put both rooms in her name even though she was paying for them both...they said they "linked" them, but automatically put one in my husband's name. (Which was odd because she never gave them his name at all...:confused3 ) Beside the point though...

I don't see any negative what ifs. She's being advised that other posts on the boards have reflected that WDW doesn't guarantee connecting rooms for a party with more than one adult regardless of the ages of the children, so she needs to make a request.

Well, I wasn't actually talking about any specific posts here, just generally speaking. Yes, connecting rooms are not guaranteed as it IS frequently mentioned here. I just meant don't stress worrying about something going wrong that in all likelyhood will not. Lots of times people post about their plans or thoughts and get so many comments about how they are going about it wrong or that their plans are going to fail that it can be discouraging without need.

Maybe my post was a little confusing. This trip will be my dh and 3 of our children. We had to get two rooms because we do not fit into one. Someone posted that you can't book two rooms. I wonder if this would be true for a large family such as ours. We did not have any trouble booking it in a single name. I also wouldn't think that disney would not have connecting rooms for a family and make a husband and wife split two rooms that were not connected. We may end up changing our reservation to a single deluxe room instead of two rooms at AkL. Waiting to hear back from guest services.

my kids were all under 18 and we were unable to get our requested connecting rooms at CBR last august... we got two rooms next to one another, but no door between... dh/i had to split up :(

I can't believe that. Hopefully we can get a deluxe room. There was a mix up with our original reservation and they didn't apply the code so when we called back there were no rooms available with the code that we wanted so we got two savannah view rooms at akl. We have been trying to get a deluxe room so all five of us could be in one room but all they had available today was Grand Floridian and Beach Club. Guest services is going to work on finding us a room with our code and will be calling us back. I am really not looking forward to two rooms with the possibility that they won't be connecting.

My dad goes ABSOLUTELY NUTS when we don't have connecting rooms. He said the CM he spoke to GUARANTEED connecting rooms, but I feel like that never happens?! Anyways, I can't WAIT until we get there and don't actually have connecting rooms (since it will be Easter!) and he calls and freaks out!! Ohhhh joy

Last May we had 6 adults and 2 minor children in our party. I requested adjoining rooms since it was my sisters family we were traveling with. I was willing to wait to get the adjoining room when we checked in. I made the reservation in one name and we did have to wait alittle when we checked in but we got what we wanted. I think that it depends on the season your are traveling in. Good luck I hope you get exactly what you request.

Adjoining rooms in Disney speak are not the same as connecting rooms. Adjoining means rooms that are close to each other. Connecting means there is a door between the rooms. If you are requesting two rooms connected by a door, please make sure you request connecting.

And yes, the consensus seems to be that Disney will GUARANTEE connecting rooms only for a party with one adult and several children.
