Do we need rain-gear in January

Hi Everyone

We are planning a January trip. The DIS boards have taught me that I need to pack for the heat and the cold if traveling in January. However, do I need to get rain ponchos, etc as well? I know there is much rain the in summer months, but wasn't sure about January.

We have being going in January for the last 8 years. Rarely, do we have rain. A couple of times sprinkles in the am but cleared up during the day. Every year I take our ponchos and we've never used them but I know the one time I don't take them it will pour!!

As you know weather is iffy. We've been freezing and we've been hot. Much prefer the hot weather. But it's disney, I'll take what i can get.

We were at Disney Dec. 30, 2006 - Jan. 8, 2007. It was warm when we were there. We wore shorts everyday. We also wore our rain jackets and ponchos a few times during the week. I have never been to Disney when it did not rain at least once during the trip. I hope this helps!!

You never know. I went for a weekend in January two years ago, and it rained the entire time, both days. Rainy days in the parks don't bother me, but this was pouring, thunderstorm rain all day. I kept thinking it would let up, but it never did. We didn't even go into the parks. That kind of weather is very unusual here in January, but it can happen.

I ALWAYS pack rain ponchos, even at that time of year. There seems to always be a shower here or there. Try picking up the $.88 ponchos in the camping section at Wal-Mart or at your local dollar store. If you pick up extras you can throw them out after one wearing. Even if it doesn't rain, I make my kids wear them on the water rides (Splash Mountain, for example) to keep dry. This way they don't have to walk around soaking wet and chilled to the bone if the weather's too cool.

You might as well take them. We went to US the first week in March and that was some cold rain we ran into! We actually needed our winter coats at night!

I was there the third week of January this year and it poured freezing rain almost every day.

Be prepared not just for rain, but for the cold rain.

Gloves are a start. Layers of fleece are a good idea too...with a slicker of some sort on top to stay dry.

It's rough when it's cold and rainy in Disney. Cold,ok. Rain, ok. Cold AND rain, not so great.

Pocket hand warmers helped a bit too...and an extra pair of dry socks in your bag!

I guess the key thing here is to be prepared. I was trying to get away with not having to pack "everything" but I will look for the dollar-store ponchos.
