Do we need a golf cart?

We are very excited to be in FW for the first week in Dec. We actually got reservations last night at midnight!! This will be our 2nd trip camping in our TT and our 1st at FW.

My question is do we need a golf cart? My concern is my 71 yr. old mother and her walking to the bus stop if we ride the bus. My husband said he would drive her there in the mornings if that is even possible. My husband thinks since we will be in the parks all day we don't need it. What am I not thinking of? I surely want to go to the campfire one night and I'm sure she would love the cart then!

Thanks for any advice.

You can definately get by without one. However, we always get one and when you're coming home late from the parks, it sure is nice to just jump on and go! It's a convenience thing. Not a must have, just a nice-to-have.

We were at FW last week for the first time and had reserved a golf cart. I was so glad to have it! We have 3 kids (12 and 6 yr old twins) and it was so nice to just hop on it and get to the marina to catch the ferry or go directly to the bus stop. And like mentioned above, when you are getting home late in the evening, it's so nice to just hop on it and drive back to your cabin/campsite.

Hope that helps!

You can definitely drive her out to the main bus stop up at the front (near check in). I think you can probably park your car in the overflow lot while you're out (make sure your parking pass is in it) so you can then just drive back when you return - but you might want to confirm that.

Taking the boat to MK (if you wanted to do that) would be much more of an issue, as there's no place to park a car near there.

Then again, if you have a car, you can also drive to the parks yourself (bring your parking pass) and avoid having to deal with getting to/from buses.

Depending on where you're staying (cabin vs campsite - and which loop) you may really enjoy having the cart. The cabins in particular are really not close to much of anything. They're really far from the marina, restaurants/trading post, Meadows pool, campfire, etc. And you cannot use a car to get around to these places internally, as there's nowhere to park.

Plus it's LOTS of fun in December to take a nightly cruise to see all the fantastic light displays all over the campground. :santa:

We've been to the Fort many times and we've never rented a golf cart. We found the buses to be very convenient, plus we took bicycles. Depending on where you are, walking is an option as well. We (including my 73 year old mother and my 69 year old MIL) had no problem walking from the 1400 loop (near the campfire and the pool) to the Settlement, for instance. Walking to the bus stop is nothing compared to all the walking you'll do in the parks, so unless someone is disabled or otherwise unable to walk for any distance, I don't think you NEED a golf cart. We've also had sites that were practically on top of bus stops - really easy walks. Just about every loop has a bus stop. Now WANTING a golf cart is a different issue - although we've never gotten one, they sure do look like fun, and they would be convenient. We explore all the loops on bicycle, but it would be really fun to do it in a golf cart. However, we spend way too much time in the parks to justify a golf cart sitting at the campground.

I'm with mdoc - it's not a necessity, we walked and used internal busses the whole time, and things are a lot closer than you think. Our busstop was mere steps from our tent - and the majority of walking we did was at the parks.

Well I am about as pro golf cart as any body (bought my own to take to FW) I have made many trips to FW with out a cart and had a good time. How ever once you have a cart at FW there is no going back. I love my cart.

Now on the issue of your 71 year old mother having to walk you may be better off renting her a ECV from a outside vendor. That way she could ride it in the parks as well as use it in FW. They will deliver them to FW and you can take them on the bus. But a golf cart is always fun:thumbsup2

I think what other posters may be eluding to is how are you planning on getting mum to and around the parks.

The walk to the bus is just a tiny percentage of the walking.

If you are going to the MK how did you plan on getting her from the bus stop to the marina or at Epcot from the bus stop there to the main gate and beyond?

If you can afford a golf cart, then go for it. It is fun to ride around the fort all hours of the day. It is not a must but like I said if you can afford it you will enjoy it. We have our own cart and always bring it to the fort. Wouldn't go any other way.

But it is expensive and you can get by without one. I think it was my wife's 12th trip (my 4th or 5th) or so before she finally broke down and agreed to get one. She spent the previous 20+ years cursing them! I do not think we will ever stay at the Fort without one now.
