Do we need a Fantasmic DP for the off-season?

My mother who lives in FL and hits the parks on occasion with all of the different sets of Grandkids says that we don't need a DP for Fantasmic! in early December. Is she right? How early would we have to be there to get a regular seat versus the prefered seating. I hate to sit and wait long periods for anything to start and she doesn't-beats running around the park for her. I'd love to hear what everyone thinks. How important is a DP in early Dec.?

We were there the last week of August (Value season) a few years ago and although the parks were not crowded Fantasmic was standing room only 1 hour before the show. It had been cancelled because of rain the 2 nights before and I think everyone was trying to catch the show that night. We didn't do the dinner show and saw almost nothing in the standing section. If the show is cancelled the night before you want to go I would get the reservations.

I was there the first week of December 2001 and last week and both times Fantasmic was standing room only about 70 minutes prior to the show starting. If I go again, I am definitely getting the dinner package!

I agree. Get the FDP reservations. We also went first week in 12/01 and it was packed. Fortunately we had FDP so we got in ok. They were starting to line up for the show at the "regular entrance" almost 2 HOURS in advance--

IMHO, you never need the Fantasmic DP. Will you need to wait in line? Yes. Will you have to wait in your seats for the show? Yes. Will you get better seats for the show? IMHO, you get better seats by waiting in line than with the DP and you don't have to be delayed and bear the expense of a sit-down meal.
