Do we have to eat that food, too?!

Hi all,

We've planned a last minute trip for next week, and I've managed to get meals everywhere I wanted, with the exception of the obligatory Princess meal. I have scheduled dinner for us at Akershus one evening, as we couldn't get ADR's at CRT or 1900 Park Fare. We've already eaten at Akershus, and while my DD's loved it, my DH and I thought it was overpriced and not very good. (Sorry to any Akershus fans!)

My (cheapskate) question is this: Will they allow all 4 of us to keep our reservation even if my DH and I choose not to eat? We'd be so much happier eating around the World Showcase, & not get charged the $36 pp they'll charge us for food we find nearly inedible. My DD's can eat and interact with the princesses, and we'll leave happy. What do you think? Please don't laugh if you find this utterly ridiculous!

We're keeping the ADR b/c we wouldn't want to let down our DD's and will obviously eat if we have to!!!

Has anyone attempted this? I'll call and ask Disney Dining, but thought I'd start here!

I would be very surprised if they would allow this. They are, after all, a restaurant first and foremost.
I'm not laughing, just wondering why you would even think this is possible.:confused3

I think I've heard of some character buffets where you can go and not eat and just pay like a $10 "entertainment" price? Like if gramma wants to go but not eat or something

I would just call Disney Dining directly and ask because I think you'll get mixed answers here. Just go to the source.

You'd probably be better off calling the restaurant directly but things like this seem to vary by the server to some extent. They seem to let you off the hook if someone is sick or has a good reason but I'm not so sure about the parents just not wanting to eat. They have changed chefs and menus slightly this year so maybe you will like it better--personally though I loved the old salmon dish and this years version was only ok.

I definitely will call. I'm just trying to make everyone happy... my DD's and ourselves! The last time we ate at Akershus we were so disappointed. And that was before they raised the prices with the inclusion of the photo package. As the PP said, maybe we'd like the new menu after all. We just love tasting tons of the CS food at all the different countries in EPCOT, and we know we'd be happy doing that, too! Of course I know it's a restaurant, but IMO, the Princesses are the real draw there!

The problem is that you have to prepay now for the Akershus meals....I think that started sometime in April when they also added a photograph to the "package". So you may find it difficult to make a reservation for 4 and only pay for 2. And if you only make the reservation for 2, you won't get a table large enough for 4 people.

But....stranger things have happened, so definitely call and ask them what they can do for you. And frankly, if you don't like the first answer or two, keep calling. It seems that answers to questions like this vary from CM to CM answering the calls, so keep going until you either get tired of making long distance calls and sittng on hold, or someone agrees to make you a table for 4 and charge you for 2 kids, lol.

Like I said, stranger things have happened.

Actually, since it is a buffet I think I've read you will pay, even if you just have water. Now that meal is offered for B, L or Dinner. Can you select a meal other than the one you had before to "mix it up"? Also the meal now includes a group photo, so it is even a much better $ deal now. Go, eat and enjoy the fun your DD will have.

Princess Storybook is not a pre paid meal. Only a credit card guarantee. Official policy says: If you make the reservation and go in, you will be charged. However that dosen't mean the server or location won't use their own discretion. When you call the dine line they will tell you you must pay. HTH :)
