Do we have a thread for first-time 2007 Half Walkers? Should we start one?

I am so excited to see everyone making the commitment and having the courage to register. I know right where you all are because I was there myself a year ago. I am so glad I registered. It energized me to train to train and ultimately to show up at the start line on 1/7/06. It was the most rewarding experience of my life. Never before had I trained for an athletic event. It was certainly the biggest achievement of my life, too. Can't wait to see everyone at the 2007 start line!

I did my first this year and had a great time.

I just signed for next year, hey,if I can do it anyone can!

I feel like I am headed in the right direction. MFM arrived two days ago and I have read it through. Today my GARMIN was delivered!! I also had my TM serviced as we recently moved. It was off .5 miles per hour!! So, when I was walking 3.3 mph..I was really doing 3.8!! That makes me feel soooo much better!! Am excited for tomorrow's LW. I agree with all about aliens!! I almost don't know this person that looks forward to the TM!!
I have not told my children that I am doing this..yes, I am probably old enough to be your mother!! (not mentally, though :rotfl: !) I want to see their shocked faces when they find out their mother ran a 5K or 15K!!

Has anyone come up with a clippie for 2007 1/2 marathon?

I think that I must be crazy  , but I told DH that I really want to be more active and have decided that I want to walk the 2007 half-marathon. Right now, I walk the dog around the neighborhood once or twice a day, just under a mile, and consider that being active.

Anywho, I think that I've lost my mind because I am really excited about doing this. Any training suggestions for a first timer are appreciated. I really want to prove to myself that I can do this.

Thanks for all of your support! I'm going to need it!!!

NHMom-watch out those "aliens" are coming for you. Many of this started this event as wanting to do something we have never done before & weren't even athletic before. Now we love it!!! Many of us think the aliens have us for that reason. Join us on the weekly thread. I did the 1/2 this year for the first time. I signed up the end of July last year & pretty much went from doing nothing to this. I loved it!!!!! I did the MFM plan & it worked out great for me. I would highly recommend getting this book. Having a good plan will make all the difference in being prepared & not getting injured by doing too much too soon. When I signed up I was both excited & scared. But as my training progressed, it changed to just being excited because I knew I was prepared. It is a great event! Definately worth it. We have a saying here "just put in those steps and you can do it!"

Maharae-first of all, old is a state of mind. 2nd my mom did the 1/2 with me this year, she is now doing the Minnie Marathon 15k & DL 1/2 with me. She will be turning 65 this year & wanted to make it special (shhh, don't tell her I told her age) although to me she doesn't look or act any where near that age.

Good luck everyone! :goodvibes I know you can do it & you will not regret it!

Thank you so much for your encouraging words! I think that I am going to need all of the support and motivation that I can get. I told my mom & dad about this today and they think I've lost my mind. They might be right. I don't want to sound ignorant, but what is teh MFM plan?

MFM is Marathoning for Mortals by John Bingham! Great book by a guy who started running in his 40s. He was at the WDW half this year and did the Goofy himself! Several of us on the WISH team used his training program. But, come hang out on the walking/running club thread. Lots of great training tips and support there!

Geez, I should look at my own threads once in a while! I didn't realize it had gotten this much attention! :thumbsup2

Mel's right, the place to be is her weekly thread. You will be amazed the things you will learn there. I know I have! :teeth:

I'm a total beginer, so the weekly threads are very valuable to me. There are all sorts of people there, from triatheletes to people like me, who's greatest athletic endeaver was housework. But look at me now! On my way to the 2007 Half! :goodvibes

This will be my first 1/2 and I am so excited to do this. My daughter, my friend and her sister and myself have all signed up to do this. None of us have ever done anything like this before. Sounds like this should be a great time and I am so motivated just thinking about going to Disney to do this!
