Do VGT rates ever go down?

We are doing a 7 day cruise on the Fantasy over New Years - 12/29-1/5. There is a 3 day 12/26-12/29 that we were considering adding as a back-to-back... but it was crazy expensive. Then a VGT rate popped up that was more reasonable but I didn't get around to booking it and now it's jumped back up to crazy expensive.

Any chance the VGT will drop again or did I completely screw up and miss the boat (literally)?

We booked our flights as if we were going on the back to back, so we're flying to Orlando on 12/25. Assuming we are not going to get the decent VGT rate on the cruise 12/26-12/29, any suggestions of how to spend a few days in Orlando? I have no desire to go to the parks and deal with the holiday crowds.

I'm kicking myself for not booking the first cruise.

Can you modify your flight without penalty?

Based on 90 days ahead for Paid In Full date, you may see some dropped reservations this week. And then possibly VGT offers. Would you consider oceanview or interior?

Not all hope is lost.

We'd end up paying more for the flight to switch it to the 28th but we'd come out ahead money-wise (i.e., the increased flight price would be less than staying in FL or going on the cruise). But then we'll be sitting at home bored the whole first week of winter break...

Otherwise, look into Christmas season events in the greater Orlando area.

I think they moved the Osborne Family lights to a non-Disney location.

Gaylord hotel: Christmas decirations?

There’s a few hours, maybe a meal at Disney Springs.

Look at Silver Springs State Park.

Tampa - Chihuly Glass museum. Aquarium. Beaches of Clearwater.

Stay outside of Lake Buena Vista and possibly save $.

You could resort hop around WDW to check out the Christmas decorations, Disney Springs, mini golf, resort pool. Waterpark if the weather is nice. Could you do a couple of days at the beach?

Was it a VGT or GTY? I've seen them come back, but no guarantee.

I haven't done a lot in Orlando other than theme parks. We did an airboat tour that was fun. Any chance there is a 3 day cruise on another cruise line on those dates?

Yes. VGT rates can pop back up. We booked the 8/31 fantasy cruise in late May or early June when the guarantee rates dropped. I didn’t book VGT the first day the rate dropped and had to book OGT the next day. That rate was only available for a couple days.

I kept checking and the VGT rate opened back up in late July and I changed our booking. On this cruise, the guarantee rate did show back up!

They let you change your booking from OGT to VGT? Were you charged a penalty?

You can change from OGT to VGT no penalty. There happy to take your money. You just can't get a refund if you went from a higher class to a lower class.

Technically you can't, but it seems hit or miss if they allow it. I just wanted to make sure that's what happened with no penalty charged to add to my arsenal next time they say it can't be done.

You sure about that? I've done it quite a few times. Technically it is allowed. You can also add a person if that rate is still available for the number of people you want to book.

You can always call and ask for yourself.

I've sometimes been told since the *GT has to be a new reservation the old reservation has to be cancelled and a *GT is in full penalty as soon as you make it (which is all true). Sometimes they do it no problem (because as you said, they are usually happy to take more money).

So you have actually tried to do this and have been told this by a DCL CSR that you can't? Your post is confusing.

You say you have "sometimes been told" Been told by who DCL? How many times has Dcl told you this? Data points are important. Have actually tried to change from an OGT to a VGT and been told no? That's important to know.

Fill-in cruise: I looked at PC, PE and POM. Nothing that fits.

OP reporting back. I had been checking every day, multiple times a day, lol. Today I realized I hadn't checked for a couple days and lo and behold the veranda GTY had dropped back to where it had been before! It was a $1200 difference for a 3 day cruise. So I grabbed it. So excited to try B2B.

Yeah! Glad it popped back up for you!

Nice work. Thanks for following up. It's a good reference for others.
