When I was a kid, in the late 1950's, my Dad was stationed in the south and we used to get Banana Flips at the commissary. They were a big golden sponge cake, kinda like a twinkie cake, only folded over kinda' like an omelet (in half) and it was filled with banana flavored creme filling. They were individually wrapped. I have only seen them that one place we lived and every time my Mom went grocery shopping on base, I got one as a treat for being good.

Do they still make those anywhere??

How weird you should ask this! Two weeks ago I wouldn't have known what they were, but just this past week they put them in our vending machine at work  I haven't had one and probably shouldn't :teeth:

Oh, gosh, to a kid of about 3 years old....they were the best thing in the whole, wide world! :teeth: Are they called Banana Flips....or is it something else??

I believe it actually says Banana Flip, I will look on tuesday and see who makes them!

WOW! I had totally forgotten about those! But when I read the topic I new immediately what you were talking about. Banana Flips were the best! Haven't seen one of those since I was a kid back in the '50's or 60's. I wonder what other memories are lying buried somewhere deep inside my brain. Thanks for the great memory!

Yes, Mrs. Freshley's those are the ones in our vending machine at work :teeth:

I have to laugh, I rediscovered these when I moved here to Florida-hadn't seen them since I was a kid. Really, really shouldn't have them, but sometimes ya just gotta have artificial banana flavored junk to make your day complete!

OMG LOL That picture looks exactly the way I remember them!! WOW!!

Oh, my, I went to the link and it says they have a 30 day shelf life! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Thanks everybody.....I will have to see if I can order some now.....maybe give them out to our 4H club or something!

YUM! Banana Flips! I've only ever found them in East Texas or Louisiana.

I haven't had one of those yummy things for years :(

I know this is a really old thread, but I have just recently begun searching for them. I used to have them often as a child. I havn't seen them in years. I recently found out that the only distributor in the US is Nickles Bakery in Ohio. I called and asked them if they could ship to me in Mobile, AL and she said it was against their policy. She said that I would need to find someone who lived in there distribution area and get them to buy them and ship them to me. Is there anyone out there living in Indiana, Michigan, West Virginia, Ohio, or Pennsylvania that might be willing to buy me a few and ship them to me? I would reimburse you for any cost.

I live in Michigan and I haven't seen them here since I was a kid, but I did love them!!

I think it's Little Debbie that makes Banana Twins, and I think they might taste about the same as the Banana Flip. They have those at our grocery store and I've seen them in Wal-Mart as well. Have you had those?

I live five minutes from Nickles Bakery. If I get a chance, I'll check out their outlet store. I actually haven't seen them in quite a while. They may not have them all the time. I'll let you know. How many would you want?

Hostess must have made a version of them because I remember going to the Wonderbread bakery (which also made hostess) and getting them there with my grandmother.

I'm a snowball gal myself!
