Do they shut down the rollercoasters during the rain?

We are planning to visit IOA tomorrow. The forecast is for showers, but who knows if those are scattered, light, steady or heavy! :) Three of us have APs, but one of us will have to buy a ticket. I'd hate for my friend to waste her money if they close the rollercoasters during the rain (however, I don't plan on riding any rollercoasters if it's raining!)

Thanks for your help!

They only shut them down when there is lightning in the area, I believe...

But be prepared, they HURT in the rain!!!

More so, Hulk than Dragons...I think...

I rode DD in the rain last year. Storm was moving in, but no lightning. Started to drizzle, then rain. The dispatch operator came on and said, "Ladies and gentleman, Deuling Dragons is now offically a water ride." The crowd cheered. Rain drops had a little sting, but it was bearable.
Hulk was running, and so was Dr. Doom.. Got a bunch of exit re-rides, lots of fun. When your ride is over, walk out slow, doors open for new people. If noone is there, or an empty seat is available, ask the ride op if you can go again, they'll say yes at the end of the day. So I was going up and down on Dr. Doom a few times as the rain was pouring.

Most showers happen in the afternoon. Go early and you won't have any problems.

Riding the coarsters or Doctor Doom hurt in the rain (so I've heard, I havent actually done so). *Sometimes* a coaster (mainly Hulk) will close in the rain if it does more than get the people wet.

And what robvia said about the Doom re-ride is very true, and often early in the morning you can get similar treatment. Proof that it doesnt hurt to ask. :bounce:

Thanks a bunch!!!! :) We are optimistic about the weather today. I appreciate all your responses. If we get soaked, I'll let you know!

Have a great day!

Try doing Millenium Force at Cedar Point in the rain. Man, that hurts!

Change of plan. We are headed to IOA tomorrow instead. Today we are going to the Daytona Beach Flea Market so my sister's friend can pick up some speedweek merchandise. :)

How about Magnum XL 200? That hurts in the rain too! :)

Barry, that ride hurts even when it's not raining. It's one of the most painful coasters I've ever been on. The lapbars killed every time you were supposed to be getting "air". Give me Millenium Force in the rain over Magnum in the sun any day!

Hey don't knock my favorite non looping coaster

We went to IOA today and had a blast! Walked on to Hulk twice, once when we got there around 10:30 and again in the afternoon. The second time we rode the line was so short that we decided to wait for the front seat. We waited about five minutes and it was AWESOME!!! :)

The wait for Dueling Dragons was longer and I wasn't feeling so well at that point, so I skipped it while the others rode.

My sister's friend was here visiting from the DC area and she had a fantastic time. I think her favorite ride was Spiderman.

We saw quite a few characters throughout the day and didn't have to wait long to get pictures with them.

It would have been perfect if it had been sunny and warmer, but we still managed to have a great time (although it got very chilly when the wind picked up!)

Sha-lyn, got any pointers to avoid the lap-bar pain?

Lines are always short in February, great time to go.
If the marketing department was smart, they'd advertise up north where the parks are closed.

Sorry. We've only been to Cedar point 1 time. didn't have any problems with the lap bar myself.
Hopefully I'll get to go back this summer.

I sat in the front seat of MF during a light drizzle and it took some fun out of the ride. Anyway, I'd rather ride in the back at night.
