Do they give lanyards for tickets?

We are taking our first trip to WDW next month, and I was wondering if they give out lanyards with the cards upon check in, or if we have to supply them. I know the card will be or park ticket, room key, and dining card, but I'm nervous about losing them somehow.

No, they will not provide a lanyard for free, but you can buy them just about anywhere.

I suggest buying something of quality before you leave. The pouches on the lanyards at WDW don't last a whole week without ripping.

I'll go the other way and say that I'd never trust a lanyard swinging freely around when boarding and un-boarding (and riding, for that matter) so many attractions where the "business end" could get caught on edges of ride vehicles and get thrown into the tracks below, or just get blown away during a ride.

(And, very likely a guest wouldn't even miss the ticket being gone for quite a long while, as
it is simply not used or needed for long stretches at a time.)

I know there are many guests who trust that not to happen.

Not me.

When in doubt I tuck it in my shirt. Though now I have a handy little wallet think that clips to my shorts and I can tuck it in my pocket. At least it isn't all ripped and torn up ~ though it is a bit bigger. Still small enough I don't' have to do bag check (which is ultimately my goal).

The lanyards I purchased from the gift shop were nice and high quality, however, the card holder that came with the lanyard was thin plastic with a cheap plastic sliding opener. I replaced the holder 2 times. I would recommend purchasing a card holder @ staples or office max prior to your vacation. You will have 5 or so choices of lanyards at the gift shop in your hotel.

DH and I have purchased several different types over the years. Both at Disney and at travel supply stores, etc. But we also tuck them inside a "buttoned" shirt or zipped into a pouch or jacket pocket once we're in the parks. We don't do a lot of fastpasses (and haven't been there to experience the new tickets/passes) so we didn't have to get them out that often.
We even had one that was the type used by nurses/hospital personnel for their badges. That worked well too, but as Robo said, I'd never let it hang loose on the rides.
;)

I had a lanyard for my Photopass+ card, and attached a Disney pouch purchased from the gift shop to hold tickets. My son had a $50 gift card in his pouch which split open and the card disappeared on our second day. My pouch split and the zipper stopped working. All tickets were promptly moved to my purse. I definitely wouldn't trust anything in the lanyard pouches sold at Disney.

I used to get the clear plastic card sleeves from Staples or other office supply stores - the kind with the hole in it that you could attach an alligator clip or retractable string clip to. But they weren't meant for taking things out and putting back in, so I replaced them frequently.

Back in 2007 I got one of the waterproof cases with the breakaway cords from the resort. I could keep plastic and tyvek tickets, ID, membership cards, fastpasses, etc. in it, and didn't have to worry about them getting wet. Never had a problem with it falling off - the breakaway is a safety measure, but I was always careful with it. It went into my cargo pockets on attractions.

I did finally replace it last year as the rubber seal had deteriorated.

I purchased a pouch worn around the neck at passporter.com It is very durable and sturdy. In fact I have used it on 6 trips and it is still in perfect shape. It has a clear plastic sleeve, a zippered section, an unzippered section and even a section to slip in a pen. I just slip it down the front of my shirt when I go on thrill or water rides. I keep our room keys, photopass card, pen, fastpasses , gift card, cash and receipts in it. I highly recommend it. :)

Thanks! We will be looking for alternative solutions. The last thing I want is to have to deal with a preventable hiccup.

Just think, soon this will be a moot question...

It'll all be in the wrist, my friend. All in the wrist.

WHAT?! Did you think we'd get through this without SOMEONE bringing it up?

Back in 2005 I booked a trip to Disneyland during its 50th Anniversary Celebration. The sent me a lanyard with my tickets (they did that back then when you stayed at Good Neighbor Hotels). I don't use a lanyard but let me tell you, I'm looking at it right now hanging on my wall, that thing could lift a truck. It is extremely heavy duty and made to hold lots and lots of pins. (something else that I don't do).

Ah, the good old days!:thumbsup2

We took a Carnival Cruise a few years ago and kept the lanyards so we use those we also got some see through generic luggage tags (good quality too)as a free sample when we went to a local fair we just put our keys in that and decorated them

Take a picture of the front and back of each card, so then even if you lose it, you have easy proof of what you had and what has to be replaced.

Don't stress about it. Millions of people visit Disney World every year and very few lose their tickets on vacation.

DH uses his wallet to hold tickets and I have a small leather zip purse that fits in my pocket to keep cards in. Have never had it fall out.

I tried a lanyard once and the irritation of something around my neck in the Florida heat was terrible! I've seen people with stuffed lanyards around their neck and don't see how they tolerate them :confused3
