Can someone please explain the process to enter a park. I will have a 5 yr old, a 4 year old and a 18 month old. We will have a bag (or 2) ans a stroller.

Do they check your bags? If so, what are they checking for?

TIA!

Traci :)

They check bags everytime you enter a park. They may also take a look at/in your stroller.

Yes they check everything, and all the zippers pockets need to be accessible! Looking for weapons I would think, but not sure!

To save time, have all zippers opened before getting to the check point. It is really a painless process. Also have one of you go through the line with the bags and stroller and the other one go through with the 2 older kids through the no bag line. It will make things go a lot quicker for you.

they check every time, some just peek, others get too personal and touch stuff- I have no idea what they're looking for,I think it's for nothing, and the whole thing is for show. It's stupid, and wastes everyones time.
Yet I still do it,to get in.

I dont think it is stupid and awaste of time if it could save a child. that check point deters alot of crime and stops alot.

I don't understand this attitude at all. You would prefer that people snuck weapons into the park?

It helps people feel safe, I suppose.

It takes 30 seconds, it's not a big deal. Have all the zippers open. They peek in with a flash light and let you go on your way.

It's really not a big deal.

Yes they check your bags everytime. They check every kind of bag too (diaper, purse, fanny pack, back pack, soft cooler, camera case, etc.). They are checking for weapons, glass, and anything else that may be harmful. Some of them just glance into the bag. While others dig around and do a more thorough search. Just have everything opened and ready to go and you will get through a lot quicker.

Yes, they will check all of your bags, and if you have pouches or smaller bags (makeup case or small toiletry bag) they will ask for those to be opened, too. Also, if you have saddle bags or storage in the stroller they will check that. As others have said, some are more thorough than others.

If it's anything like bag check at DLR, it's to slow everyone down, to give the *real* security people more time to covertly look people over.

I think it is somewhat pointless as well. Of course, I don't want anyone sneaking anything into the park. But, they don't check anythink on your person such as coat pockets, cargo pants pockets, baggie shirts, etc. Anyone who wanted to take in anything other than something huge could do it easily.

I think if someone is determined to bring a weapon in, they will not put it in their bag.
they will put it somewhere else.

its not just weapons like knives and guns, but also bomb material etc. I haven't yet gone into anyplace with a large amount of people converge and NOT been checked, except maybe museums.

I guess it doesn't bother me at all because I go through something like this almost every day

Also, at Animal Kingdom, they may be looking to see if you have juice boxes/pouches with straws. Straws are not allowed there.

If you don't like having your things touched, have it packed into ziplock baggies. Then, they can see what you have without touching it all. Plus, it keeps everything dry in storms and on water rides.

I can tell you exactly when it started. After 9/11. I was there just a month after and that's when everything changed everywhere...I think we should just be happy they don't install metal detectors and make the whole process be like the airport! They're looking for bombs, guns, knives etc. Would you want someone sneaking something like that into Disney? Not me! They're doing it for your safety so just open all zippers and go through it. It doesn't really take very long at all...unless you're carrying ALL of your luggage lol.

FWI- They really do not care that you bring in food, that is not the goal of the check. We bring nothing in as I hate to carry anything but have heard some really funny remarks from the security guys when someone has a whole meal in the bag!

At MK, when my 7-year-old very seriously informed the security officer inspecting her Nemo fanny pack that she didn't have a gun or any other weapon inside because that's what bad guys do, the security officer smiled and thanked her, then told me quietly "we're really looking more for glass than anything else" and winked at me. I'm ASSuming that most "bad guys" wouldn't have their weapons in a place where they'd be seen in a bag check either so the security officer's explanation made sense to me.

I carried an organizer purse and was checked everytime we entered the parks last fall. My dad had his 'man purse' (an oversized wallet/fanny pack thingy) and most times he walked through without being checked. Except for the time that my husband and I were teasing him about the purse and how he would have to be checked. The security guard heard me and diligently checked! The next time through I was in a different aisle than him and it was not checked. I had to (lovingly) scold him for slipping it through security!
