Do they check ID with AP discount?

If it’s being paid with a CC, it has to match the name on the AP, regardless of who is at the table. YMMV depending on the CM. I would think cash would be easier to do that with, but the rules of the AP are that in order to get the discounts, the AP holder has to be the one paying.

Link to where it says that? Never seen that rule in writing. Only that you can have up to 3 guests on your AP discount.

Where does it say you can have 3? One the AP section it says "The Annual Passports and their benefits are nontransferable" which means you can't give them to someone else. If I am with someone who wishes to purchase something and get a discount, I have them purchase a gift card, and I buy with the gift card. About 2 years ago they had to get strict because some cashiers were giving people who did not have Aps the discount. Now they require ID to use the discount and they require the CC (if used) to match the ID.

See the highlighted. Non-transferable means somebody else can’t use the benefits. That would include other people paying. They do enforce that. But on the flip, I don’t see anything about up to 3 guests - where have you seen that? I regularly pay for my family of 6 on my pass.

I still don't see it say the CC had to match the AP and ID. guess there are a lot of inconsistencies. The 3 guests was actually at WDW now that i look back. Its contradictory that it says non transferable but then lets you pay for 6 people. And I have used my daughters AP before. Have also used my wifes CRedit Card to pay many times even though I used my AP and ID . Maybe they word it loosely to allow the CMs some interpretation, which is what we have all seen based on the answers here.

That’s exactly what non-transferable means though. :confused3 They don’t have to spell it out anymore than that.

And no, it’s not contradictory since I’m paying the entire bill. It would be if I/they let my kids use my AP for a discount on something they were purchasing. We all have APs so it’s a moot point for me anyway.

In any case, I was answering the PP question. I’m not sure why you seem to want to prove my statement wrong. As I said before, YMMV but it is clearly the rule in the terms & conditions of the AP.

The payment has to come from the AP holder. CMs are holding pretty strictly to the rules. If you have been allowed to pay with your wife's credit card, I am very surprised. When I handed my ID and AP, then my daughter handed her credit card, they required her AP and ID. Your experience is vastly different than our family's. I'm glad it worked for you, but I would hate to give your advice, then the OP experience my experience and be surprised.

I have been denied. I was going to pay for something and at the last minute my MIL wanted to buy it for my son instead and tried to use her credit card and the cashier refused. She said if my MIL wanted to pay it had to be cash or else it would have to be my credit card so the name matched the AP.

My husband tried to use his CC to pay for a meal at one of the TS restaurants and I'd put down my ID and AP because I had a bigger discount the server politely refused to process the payment with his card. I then put down my room key and charged it to the room instead. We also ran across this at the stores too - if we wanted my higher level discount on anything I had to pay.

I think of using AP like making an alcohol purchase. The person who gets IDd (has AP checked) is the person who has to pay. If someone else wants to pay, they have to show ID (AP) as well.

When we were there last week, we were asked every time we used the AP discount for ID. Ironically, the only time I wasn't asked for the discount was when getting the AP holders' F&W buttons. I asked the lady if she needed to see ID, and she said "No, that's OK-I figure you wouldn't be standing in line just for a button if you didn't really have an AP." I have a feeling she was a CM who used to give out the AP glasses and felt we were being short-changed this year.

Wow that’s a lot of exclusions!

And to add to the confusion of how many exclusions there are: I have gotten discounts on things supposedly excluded (normal 20% merch discount on CDs for example). There's also sometimes partial discounts still available (the Sphero BB-8 shortly after release was only a 10% discount regardless of pass level).

On topic, I've always been asked for my ID even just getting a popcorn refill. CMs have thanked me for having my ID ready to go, haha! They usually get halfway through asking for it only to realize I already have it out.

And CC definitely has to match the AP holder. My mom and I have the same level pass so it rarely matters which one we use. We just have to be sure we use the correct CC. I would have cash (or transfer via PayPal, Venmo, or banks) reimbursed later or use a gift card. The passholder definitely has to be the purchaser, though.

In July I watched a woman at counter service have to go find her husband for a different credit card because the card name and the AP name had to match. We are new to AP's but I have been asked some, but not all of the time. I would just expect to be asked to avoid a problem. If it is your AP then you need to pay. If you are paying for someone else in your party, work that out ahead of time.

The CM in the Pandora gift shop told us they are getting strict about the person with the AP paying for the merchandise. My sister put a shirt on the counter and my mom showed her AP and ID (we all have one, but she keeps hers readily available). The CM said if my sister was paying she would need to show her AP (my mom was paying for it). We didn't run into this situation in May so maybe they are becoming more strict.
