I'm planning a trip to DW in Jan and would like to take some snacks into the parks in a backpack to save some $$$. Are they checking them as you enter the park? I know a lot of places are since 9/11. Thanks for any information!!

Yes they check backpacks at all of the parks. I wouldn't worry about bringing a few snacks, etc. into the park, as long as you don't have a whole bag full of stuff. They shouldn't give you a hard time, everyone brings some type of snack/food in.

Thanks for the info. Is there anyone out there that had to take the stuff out before they would let you in?

I did but I had a rather packed black messager back styled purse for my camera and a billion rolls of film, the curse of a shutter bug. They only requested that I take the larger items out and open all zippers. For the 13 year old girl I had with me it proved very embarrassing but she was over it as soon as see was in the park.

We did discover that if you buy a clear plastic backpack you would be whizzed right through the line with hardly a moments glance. It was wonderful. My mother had the backpack and said it was very pleasent to carry and since we were there in January it was not extreamly hot with the plastic.

Also, they will make no arguments about bringing in food. Their job is strictly security no to monitor all the food. They even checked some coolers in the line ahead of me and made no comments about them bringing in the food.

Just wondering, when in January? I will be there in January also! Have a great trip!

They allow mini-coolers (the lunch-sized ones), not large coolers. Anything more than about a foot square is not going to make it in.

The only food items they will confiscate are items in glass containers, and/or alcohol.

We walked in with lots of snack stuff, most of which was given to the kids by the concierge staff at AKL(I was concerned that there must be a sugar shortage at the parks with all the candy they got), there was never a problem. The down side to every kid having a fanny pack is that they all have to be searched.

Thanks for all the replies. We are going Jan 17-24 2004. Can't wait!!!!!!!;) :bounce: :Pinkbounc ;)

We have had our bags checked every time, but never did we have to give up our snaks. We were careful not to take glass. The security was even joking about sharing some pringles with him!

I read (somewhere) to put everything in zippies that can be easily taken out so that Security can see the bottom of the bag. Supposedly that is the point. The whole point of a fanny pack is to see how much you can stuff into it, right? Now we have to worry about taking it all out, opening all the zippers, etc. Melanie

Just back today and I can say they definately check every bag! We travelled pretty light....everyone just had their small fanny pack and I had a small backpack, so it was ok. We did see lots of people with rolling backpacks  coming into the parks and it took forever to search those because they were so big and had many zippered sections.

You will have no problem bringing in a few snacks...we did this every day. One day, the Security guard was checking DD-8's fanny pack and took out her Teddy Grahams pretending he was going to keep them for later!
