there isn't even a flake in the air? The snow hadn't even started yet, and they're sending the kids home. At the time when it finally did start, they would have been already anyway. If I had young children that I had to be home with, I would be mighty upset for having to miss a day of work for nothing. *Ok, vent over*

and they cancelled school this morning when there was only 1/2" of snow on the roads..we only got a total of about 3"..but now they have about 14 snow days to make up this year!

Yes, ours does. Of course, we are alot further south and there are not enough plows to get much other than the interstates done. We had snow predicted earlier this month and they canceled school even before a flake fell. They lucked out and we got 10+ inches, roads were very messy when school would be letting out. A few neighboring districts didn't cancel and had a mess getting kids home. Two busses even dumped their kids at a grocery store because they couldn't get up a hill. Then they left the kids there with no supervison (middle school kids, 11-14)! Quite an uproar about that one.

But, a few years ago they canceled school for the next day when a hurricane was supposed to hit. It veered away and we had a glorious 70 degree day for the kids to play outside! I'm just glad I'm not the one who has to make those judgement calls.

Nope... they have only canceled for cold when it wasn't snowing (I'm talking well below zero). We got a good portion of snow today and I'd say half the schools were in today... including the school district I live in.

Here they'll call off school on the night before a snowfall is expected. My daycare usually stays open though, so until next year when DD goes to kindergarten, I'm safe!

I live in the lake-effect snow belt off from Lake Michigan. We have to have about a foot of snow *and* high winds before school is cancelled.

Here it's at least 6 inches and freezing before they cancel school.

In our area of NC it depends on how bad they *think* it's going to be. They cancelled last month and it didn't start snowing until after lunch - over 3 hours is considered a day - and they wouldn't have had to make up for that had they gone. However, we are not equipped like more northern states and we have to put our children on busses first and I fully support that.

Here in Chattanooga if mention snow school will closed. Heaven forbide if they send kids and it starting it will be he** to pay for that one. Because business will start to close here Chattanooga if snow heres. I am only talking about flurries. We do not have very many snow plows here. You can tell if they mention snow all 3 new channnels go to the mountain to check out snow before it gets to Chattanooga valley.

Here in the upsate of SC they cancel school if it "might" possibly snow even a flake  !! It's fun on the day we stay home and play, but we hate giving up half our Spring Break and going to school past the first week of June - oh well, we're used to it at least.
