Do the rides cover big bums?

Never been to Florida before, never flown before!! Myself, hubby, 3 daughters 7, 8 & 10 + a well travelled sister in law are off to Florida at the end of March for 16 days - Help!!
Myself, I am worried about fitting in the seats on the rides, I am 18 stone, and worry that I may be on the side watching my family having fun. Have any other big bums out there been and had a fitting time, I would love to hear from you, also the rides with the thing that comes down over your head, are they ok?
Our 8 year old will have ner 9th birthday while we are in Florida, any suggestions?
Any suggestions on anything would be great!

For your daughters birthday they now sell hats that say happy birthday. I saw them there last week. They also give out free pins that say It's my birthday at city hall at Magic Kingdom. Make a ps at a character meal, if she likes the princesses the castle would be great.

My hubby and I are both Pooh Size. He's over 18 stone, I'm a little under, but not by much. We never had a problem fitting in the rides. You might check out this link:

At my biggest, I was 280 lbs (I'm only 5'2") and I could ride everything at WDW. Space Mountain was hard to get in and out of, but I fit. You might check out allearsnet.com, they have a webpage about being large at WDW.

Actually, the only thing I couldn't ride because of my size was Dueling Dragons at IOA.

Just another reassuring voice

You should have no problem at WDW. All the rides are very generous in bottom as well as leg room. If you are tall, space mountain may be a bit of a squeeze because the cars are kinda narrow and there's not much leg room. Also, just a heads up, the turnstyles on Pirates seem to me to be a bit snug. I know some rather large people who have made it through, but if you are worried use the handicapped entrance.


Universal Studios IOA the Hulk and Dueling Dragons are difficult if you have a larger chest. There are specific rows, 3 & 6 I believe that have seats for people with larger upper bodies so you can pull down the harness. However if you have a REALLY large chest and stomach area you might not fit. This happened to a friend of ours on our last trip.


All in all you shouldn't have much of a problem.

How Exciting for you and your family coming to Florida for the 1st time!!! I know this will be a wonderful birthday for your DD. Please stop by Guest Relations at all of the parks and DTD so she can receive her Birthday button s. All parks have different ones themed to the specific park (MGM and MK are the same, don't know why! )

As for fitting into the rides... you should have no problem. WDW realizes that guests come in all different shapes and sizes and have made the rides to accomodate pretty much anyone.

I believe that 18 stone is about 250 pounds - not very big by American standards. You should have no problem fitting into all ride vehicles. At the very worst and maybe only on a couple of rides, it may be snug and you might be a bit uncomfortable for the duration of the ride. But I believe that you don't have to worry about trying to fit in a vehicle and not fitting and being embarrassed by having to leave.

So, take your big bum to WDW and have a great time!

AS long as no one tells my DH on me, I'll share his stats. He's 6'6" and weights about 300lbs now. As far as I could determine he rode anything he wanted to while we were down there Thanksgiving week. (and a few things he didn't want to ride as well) He even had room for his long legs on Space Mountain!

You should have no problem with size, the Allears sit is very good. We have visited 20+ times and still referance it.

Be sure to go to the MK on DD birthday and get the pin in city hall. CM and other guests will say something all day and you never know if a CM will do something special. I also would try to book a PS for a charater meal that day. We like the breakfeast at Crystal palace or lunch/dinner at 1900 park fare.

As to your question about whether the rides cover big bums. Not sure about that one but I can tell you, for sure, that my big bum has covered just about every ride. LOL

Just kidding you. I was large, not sure how many stone but was just slightly smaller than Mount Rushmore so I am sure it was plenty, and I have yet to find a ride that I cannot fit into comfortably.

I have lost a whole lot of weight in the past couple of years and can fit through the turnstiles without turning sideways now.

Yup...that turnstile is small. I have seen what I consider average size people turn sideways in that one!

Other than that, most of the rides are very forgiving for large people. Go and enjoy without worries!

MickeyCrazed, you have reminded me that the only 'ride' I ever had trouble getting on/through was the turnstile. I would hold my breathe, pray and sometimes not eat as it was a close call as to whether I would make it or not. Was always embarrassing. It was a good thing when I could get a CM to allow me through after a stroller or something without making a big deal out of it. (sigh)

My DH is 6'4" and 325lbs. Big Footaball Playing Dude and he fit on everything. He says Space Mountain is a tight fit. He doesn't like riding it because it is in the dark and he is paranoid he is going to come out headless. He never wanted to go to WDW because of his big size. He said it was for kids. Now, he loves it he says it is big person friendly. The rides that do not have enough leg room, particularly, Kiliminjaro Safari and Great Movie Ride, he just twists a little sideways for some extra leg room. Have fun and enjoy.

I would say that you have nothing to worry about! My fiancé’s cousin plays professional football-he is 6’7 and 325lbs, and he had no problems with anything really. Some rides were a little tight on leg room but nothing that was too bad. I had the same thought when we went about him being comfortable and able to ride, but then I remembered that so many professional athletes go to Disney-especially after the Superbowl!!!-so the parks are well equipped to handle people of any size. However, we did not ride things like Dumbo or astro orbiter so I am not sure about those. Like other people said the only tight squeeze was Space Mountain and even that was OK. I thought about him and my fiancé (also 6’7) losing their heads but that worked out fine too!!!

If the poster above is right and your weight translates to 250 lbs you will have no problems I am 330 and short (5'3). I am beyond pooh sized. I had few problems fitting on the rides. The turnstiles at Pirates and the Hall of Presidents were impossible so I just unhooked the chain and walked through the side. The seats on Star Tours in MGM were uncomfortable but I fit and the belt fit, though it was a boring ride. The seats in the Drew Carey show about sounds were very uncomfortable, and my DH and I would have been more comfortable on Splash Mountain had we taken the CM up on the offer of separate seats. I have no complaints about any other ride I went on. My favorite rides were Tower of Terror and Rockin Roller Coaster in MGM. If you decide to go see Cirque du Soleil in Downtown Disney know that the seats are smallish but they do have some armless seats available. I was pleasantly surprised out how size friendly WDW is, heck I even when swimming which hasn't happened in 20 years! Have an excellent time!

You shouldn't have any problems... last time I went, I was 5'11" and 350 pounds, and I rode everything fine... Space Mountain was the toughest, but I did fit, and had a great time. I did look rather ridiculous on some of the water slides at Typhoon Lagoon, but I didn't really care.
