I was gifted a couple of Disney gift cards for my birthday and I wondered if I could use them to pay for lunch or dinners in the Disney restaurants. Thanks in advance!

Make sure they're Disney gift cards and not Disney Store gift cards.

I'm baffled to why Disney made both of these cards, since the Disney ones work in The Disney Stores, but the other way around doesn't.

Yes, we always use our Disney gift cards to pay for meals and souvenirs etc. They've worked everywhere we went including Disney Springs.

And if you dont want to manage multiple cards, you can use disneygiftcard.com to combine cards (up to $1000)

So this prompted a question, what is the difference between a Disney Store gift card and a Disney gift card? It looks like Disney Gift Cards purchased at the Disney Store online or in person can be used for a number of things including being used for DCL and Disney World purchaes.

The difference is in the name and where you can spend it. Disney Store gift cards can only be spent at Disney Stores. Disney gift cards can be spent at pretty much anything owned by Disney, Resorts, restaurants within the resorts, theme park tickets, etc etc... and Disney gift cards can be spent at The Disney Store as well...?

Hahaha, yeah, ok, I think the wording is just throwing me off!! I got it now :). You can buy Disney gift cards AND Disney store gift cards at the Disney store.....good grief I feel like I'm singing Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!!!

Thank you all!

Yes, you can buy them both at a Disney Store, but spending them is a different ball game.

Nope. Not anymore. I tried to do that with my summer trip. It was my first time purchasing about $500 worth of gift cards from Target (5% discount), and I couldn't combine any of them. I ended up carrying 10 gift cards around...:rolleyes2

I have combined $4000 worth in the last month. But I could not do it on Safari on my phone. I had to use Chrome. I did it while riding home from Sam's while my husband drove.

Like the PP, I think DW had a little trouble, but in the end, she consolidated many smaller cards into a few $500 cards 3 weeks ago.

huh! that's weird. I was using explorer on my laptop. didn't work. Weren't any options to combine cards back in... late May? early June?

You have to go to "Manage my cards"
All your cards will be listed.

Under each one, except the one listed as primary, will have a transfer button.
You have to transfer the whole balance to another card.

You can't transfer from the primary one. It took me a few minutes to figure that out. When I looked with Safari, I had the transfer button, but nothing happened when I pushed it. Since I have a bank that doesn't always play nice with Safari, I tried Chrome and the transfers worked.

Nope. Transfer button never appeared. Believe me, I tried long and hard to figure it out. Googled it. Followed instructions. Maybe it was a temporary measure.

I book with a travel agent. She's lucky I got them all combined. I used them to pay for our package. She would have pulled her hair out if she had to enter all the cards in.

I hope it works for a friend. We're taking a trip Thursday to get cards for her family's trip. I told her it was easy and "no problem". I hope I didn't tell her a lie. The way Disney's websites glitch and carry on. I guess nothing is as "easy" as it seems.

By the way, can you use the Disney Gift Card at the Epcot food Kiosks? I know they have a special food and wine one (but you need to put $200 on it).....but that's not the one I want.

There was a temporary issue in the time period you're talking about that prevented people from transferring balances. I can't recall the reason but it was all over the Disney gift card thread in the Budget Board here. It's fixed now.
You can load up to $1,000 on each card on your account, up to 5 cards. ($5,000). That's not to say you can't get more above the $5,000 limit. You can, you just can't add them to your account on the gift card site.
Also, when transferring amounts between cards, you can only transfer the whole balance, not a partial amount. Something to keep in mind when moving money between them.
We use cards for dining mostly. I buy them from Target with my red card discount in the months before our trips and combine balances all the time. It's really convenient for us. I write the amount on each one in permanent marker before our trip so I know which one to grab for which restaurant. You can even add a tip on your gift card for the servers.

This will be my first time using gift cards for Disney World, I normally buy/use them when we do a Disney Cruise and I can go to Guest Services first thing and just load them on my ship board account instead of waiting until the last day then paying everything off. Can I do the same thing for Disney World? When we first arrive can I go and apply them to my room account? Thanks!
