Just wondering if and what the restaurants do when celebrating a birthday? I'm assuming you have to tell them when you are seated or do they somehow know already? They asked when I made the ressie and the CM said the resort will do something special so I'm wondering about the restaurants.

Thanks!

when I made my adr's this morning, I asked and they gave me a "cake hotline" number to call to get a personalized b-day cake. Otherwise, just let them know when you check in with the hostess and you can purchase a 6 in cake. This is all they told me. If you find out more, please let us know!! :cake:

We were there last year for dd's 5th bday and it was noted on the ressies

LTT -mickey confetti on table - birthday cupcake - the staff inc characters sang

planet hollywood - nada

crt - birthday cupcake - fairy godmother sang - cinderella wished the little princess a happy bday

garden grill - birthday cupcake - the staff inc characters sang

coral reef - pesonalized menu - birthday cupcake

hollood and vine - nada

wcc - the staff sang - birthday cupcake

We celebrated dd at Le Cellier last june. I had noted it was her b-day and when we ordered desert they brought out a yummy chocolate moose in a chocolate cup and gave her a card that all the servers had signed. She was turning 12 and large group of servers sang and made a big fuss over her it was really great.

We just got back. It was my DD 3rd bday. She had the pin that was given to her at check in. Make sure you let them know if you are staying on property at check in. We got balloons and a card signed by Cinderella(her favorite character). Also CM sprinkled pixie dust on her head.

Dinner at 1900 ParkFare all characters wished her happpy bday and called her princess. Got a tiara, placemat signed by characters, and waiter sang happy bday song.

CP Breakfast...Nothing just characters acknowledge her bday button

hollywood and vine lunch free cupcake.

We celebrated my 50th b-day at Disney last year. My DH called our resort to tell them (I was given a button, balloons, a wine/chocolate basket with wine glasses--etched with Mickey and a signed card by Mickey and Minnie); he also made sure it was noted on all of our ADR's. Every restaurant we dined at (except for Boatwright's) either acknowledged it, brought out a cupcake with a candle or decorated our table. At Crystal Palace, our table was decorated with confetti, ribbons and a flower. They brought me a card signed by Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore and Piglet and a cupcake and Eeyore and Tigger came over while our waiter sang to me. However, when we went for my husband's 50th five years ago it was totally ignored. I think it is the luck of the draw.

They made me a special dessert at CR and Le Ceillier after seeing my bday button, they brought me a whole cake(didnt order) at Biergarten and I shared with the whole table, they made a fuss at CRT and brought a bday card all the princess signed, they made a fuss at Ohana announced my day (said I was 21 HA!) and brought me a card. Got ahead of several lines on rides, had two carts give me free water bottles. CMs in most countries in EP sang me Happy Bday so I would say birthdays are big at WDW!

I've found Disney to be hit and miss on the birthdays. My sis and I always go the beginning of December to see the decorations and it also happens to be her bithday day. When I make ressies, I'm asked about special occasions and mention her birthday day. Most of the time nada, last year, they were wonderful. Upon check in, after being "welcomed home', she was given a birthday button which she proudly wore. During our stay there, one morning I opened our room door and there were balloons and a card from 'the gang' (Mickey, etc), throughout the park, CM's would tell her happy birthday, we ate at the buffet at Fort Wilderness and they made everyone sing to her and she got a free dessert (she was so embarassed, the button came off), we went to the Yachtsmen and they gave her her own personalized 'birthday menu' and at the end, a wonderful free dessert and sang to her. Really made her feel special the entire week. My husband and I have gone on his birthday several times and NADA, in fact, one year we went and it was my husband and brother in law's 60th birthdays and nada. So, like I said, hit and miss. Don't expect anything but it sure made last year so special for my sis and alot of laughs for me.

When I get home where I can reach photobucket, I'll post the pic--CP did have Mickey confetti on the table for bil's birthday in 2007

So do most people 'celebrate' their birthday the entire time they are there? I had never thought of mentioning it on each ADR, just the one that is actually his birthday.....and the things from the resort, is that something you asked for, or just got? Thanks

I was wondering the exact same thing.

Our upcoming trip in October is my birthday present to myself, so I plan on celebrating my birthday for the week that we are in WDW. Besides, my family can never get together on one day, especially since most birthdays fall on a weekday, so birthdays are usually stretched out to a week or two anyway. I've gotten birthday presents at Christmas before...

Last time we were there and dd turned 10...I had told Port Orleans Riverside (nothing) and we went and got her a birthday button. Nothing was acknoledged anywhere except in CRC and the characters gave her a birthday card. Where do you stay that you arrived with balloons in the room...did you arrange that ahead of time and did you have to pay for that?

The balloons and wine and chocolate basket with Mickey etched wine glasses that I received in my room were not something that was asked for ahead of time or paid for by my DH. It is just something that the resort did. We stayed, as we most often do, at the CSR. But like I said, when we were there for my DH's 50th--NADA.

The balloons on the door handle and the card was done by Disney. You can go through the Disney Florist (I believe) and they have different baskets, flowers, etc you can purchase to have sent to the room. My girls did that for my sis and she got this cool ''6 pack' insulated lunch bag that had pop in it, chips, snack bars, etc and MORE balloons. Yes, she celebrated her birthday the entire time we were at the park. It made her feel so special and good about herself, her husband is a great guy, but just not that into those kind of celebrations. Again, for her last birthday, WDW did one heck of a job!
Oh, if you want some fun, Whispering Canyon (I think that's the one) over at Wilderness Lodge puts on a great 'show' for birthday folks (We asked that we be left alone and just be allowed to eat, which was honored), we enjoyed watching all the goings on and laughed alot..

We celebrated our DD's 9th at WDW. Great trip. We visited all 4 parks that day and 3 of the 4 bday buttons were different. Everyone wished her happy b-day. Special placemat at CM and cupcake, wishes and cupcake at CRT and a CM placed her in the center of Main Street and had a huge crowd sing to her. Lots of fun.

We only celebrated the actual bday. Pop also brought balloons and a card from Mickey and left tied to the door.

1) There are hundreds of birthdays and anniversaries daily at WDW.
2) This doesn't count what others think of as "special" days.
3) They all can't be celebrated.
4) With that being said, many CM's do a lot for celebrations.
5) What you get is solely dependent upon what the CM wants to do.
6) CM's at restaurants, parks and resorts have a lot of leeway.

Examples:
. . . pixie dust (sparkles) at table
. . . balloons at table or in resort room
. . . autographed cards at table or in resort room
. . . songs
. . . cupcake with candle
. . . free big cakes
. . . free wine
. . . free desserts
. . . free flowers
. . . free baskets
. . . free champagne and chocolates

When I booked the trip I told my TA that it was a surprise for DD's 5th birthday. She had that noted on the resort reservation. When I called to make our ADR's the CM pulled up our reservation asked about DD's B-day and I told her DD would turn 5 at Disney. It was she that noted it on each ADR

In addition to what was done for DD at the restaurants, when we checked in at the resort they asked for the birthday girl - when I called her over she was given without any prompting on my part - Balloons, a birthday pin a tink yomd pin, a first visit pin and she received a phone call from a character.

we went to our room and unpacked ,then walked around the resort a bit, swam and then went to dinner after dinner we told her we were going to MK to see the fireworks and she cried to go back to resort. It was all too much happiness for one day.

The CM's in the park also asked DD about her b-day and would give her little treats throughout the week. She became addicted to choclate covered marshmellows and was given more chocolate chip cookies and cakes than one family could eat in a week.

She is truly convinced that Disney is the most magical place on earth.
