Do the "over 50" crowd like POP?

So I was thinking about booking a couple rooms at POP, one for us (DH, me, DS 8 and DS 5), and one for my 66 year old MIL. But, I was wondering what a woman her age would think of POP. Would someone her age even like a resort like POP? Anyone have any insight on this?

Also, what songs do they play in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s? (just wondering)

Thanks :)

Please don't take offense at this remark, because it's meant with a smile...You're very young, aren't you? (And, yes, I'm jealous.)

As someone not far from your MIL's age, I would love it!

Many years ago when I brought my elderly (In their 70's and 80's...not music, years...) and worried about kind of the same things. They surprised the heck out of me!

Well I'm young, but I'm not that young.....I'm 38 and my hubby is 41. Of course today, 38 is the new 28, or so they say.:goodvibes

I guess when you're 38 .... someone "50" is old. :rolleyes1

It would also appear that 50 and 66 are the same age. :cutie:
Considering I turned 50 recently....I'm not sure whether that is good or bad..I guess it depends on which end of that range one is at.

Now that I think of it...I've heard they say "50 is the new 40"....yeah right.:rotfl2:

No no no, really everyone, I don't even consider my MIL old.:flower3: I just wanted to get a general perspective from a grandparent's point of view, and I figured grandparents are maybe 50 years old and up.

I just wanted to know if there's just too much kid stuff going on there (all the colors, craziness, noise, huge icons, etc) for those that aren't used to it 24/7 anymore (if that makes any sense)?

(DH and I are used to living in Romper Room 24/7, but my MIL hasn't had to do that for 35 years, and if that's what POP is like, I don't want her to be miserable during her very first trip to WDW. Especially since I'm the planner!:scared: )

Actually..as I remember, (it's been sooo long..and the memory is fading fast)...my mom was a grandma at 39!

I'm just "playin' with ya head"....having a little fun watching you squirm!:lmao: (although it is true..she was a grandma at 39..and I was 23 when we had our first).

I really can't answer as to the resort..as I haven't stayed there. If they aren't into all the "kid stuff"...they might prefer something else. I would say my mom wouldn't enjoy it because she prefers resorts with other dining options besides the food court. She also prefers to have a more "hotel" resort..than "motel" offering. She enjoys a lobby where she can relax and enjoy doing some people watching.

My parents (in their 60's) do not like POP or All Stars at all, but it's usually just the two of them when they visit Disney.

On the other hand, MIL & FIL are coming (just turned 60) and they will be staying at POP with their daughter, SIL, and 2 small grandsons. I thing they are looking forward to staying there as a family. But if they were going alone they would probably stay somewhere else.

I think that she will get a kick out of POP! She was in her 20-30's during the 60-70's so she probably will have some fun memories when she sees the huge icons, the peace signs and such. My DH and I are in our 50's and enjoyed POP, infact we will be returning in December with another couple.
She will probably appreciate how much Disney puts into making the resorts magical.
I am sure your whole family will have a great trip

Bev

Oh my gosh was I squirming!!! I was squirming, had to get out my shovel to dig myself out of the hole that I dug, and I caught "foot-in-mouth syndrome, all at the same time!

Sorry:cutie: ..was just having a chuckle at your expense...I couldn't help it. I was thinking the same thing. "I've got to watch her dig herself out of this hole!" Can you tell I spend too much time on the Dis?:rotfl:

We're the mid 40's crowd and just spent one night at POP before checking into POR on our package. The rooms were nice and in great shape, and the grounds well maintained and clean, but honestly we weren't crazy about the theming, maybe it's because we grew up with all it depicts, made us feel old.:rotfl2: I'm not saying don't stay there, we did it once but probably wouldn't stay there again, but I never say never.

I stayed there in Nov to start off my vacation - 4nights Pop, 4 nights Coronado and 5 nights BCV
I was turning 50 on that vacation - it was fun looking through time and I found a sign w/my birthdate
I turned 50 and stayed in the 50s

If your parents are like my parents, just being with their granddaughter (and me of course :rotfl: ) makes them happy no matter where they are. They live in VA and I live in LA and we all met in February and stayed at Pop. Everyone had a great time. My mother just gets a thrill being with my DD and getting to watch all the other kids splash in the pool, seeing DD get wide-eyed at everything around her......people watching at Pop is half the fun. We loved seeing all the dressed up kids (and some adults) on P&PP nights. I say go for it. We LOVED Pop.

Oh, by the way, we were in the 50's building and while in the pool right there near that building, 50's music played all day and they have nice tables with umbrellas right there so you can be out of the sun if you want, but still watch the kiddies swim.

My mom loves POP and she is in her 60s. POP is a fun place that appeals to most people and I think a great value.

OK - I admit it - I am over 50......(don't tell anybody) Have been to Disney 30+ times and I like the POP. For some reason I like POP better in the non-swimming months - I prefer a moderate during the summer months so I can sit out by the pool and it is quiet. Rooms at POP are a little on the small side but I can live with that.

From what I've read it appears it might be more a matter of taste....not a matter of age whether one will like POP. I think that's applicable to almost any resort at any price level.
Good thing Disney gives us so many to choose from!

Well, we're just on this side of AARP (I'm 46, husband is 48) but we LOVE Pop Century. Where else can you go and see those memories in the shadowboxes in the lobby? Or walk along the lake and see the events from every year from 1950-1999? Or visit with the icons from 50 years?

We're going to Pop Century next week. I will be on my own for two days (husband has business). I plan to spend a lot of time just at the resort and walking around and remembering the "good ole days".

I'm 58 (yeah, I said it!) and I love POP!!! My dh, just turned 50, hates it. But he is sort of a resort snob. He's grinning and bearing it this Sept because my dd and I are staying at POP and if he wants to go, that's where he has to stay!!!
I love it, I truly do. If I'm not at BWV, you'll usually fiind me at POP.
