Do tent campsites ever open up at Christmas?

We tried to get a tent site for Christmas a few months back, and FW was sold out. We booked a stay at POR (we stayed there last Christmas week and had a great time!) I am happy to stay at POR again, but I was wondering if it is worth it to keep trying to see if a site might open up and change our ressies or is it a lost cause?

In this economy, I would suspect there will be cancellations. I would keep calling daily, early, right up to 45 days before your arrival, since packages have to be cancelled that far out to get back the deposit. Once you're inside 45 days I'd say make alternate ressies and keep trying for FW, since site-only ressies can be cancelled 6 days before arrival. If you get FW, cancel the alternate ressie. So basically, keep trying up until the point you decide you need to have a firm plan in place to properly pack and prepare for your trip. (enough p's for ya!?) For me, that'd probably be about two weeks, but you need to determine your own point of no return.

Thanks for your reply. I think I will try calling, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Either way, I'm going to Disney!

Same as above. We have ressies for Dec. 27- Jan 4. The way things look now we'll probably cancel at least part of the reservation. --of course i'll post here first.
