A freind gave us a tnt camper that was given to him. It needs lots of work but may be a lot of fun fixing up for our Disney camping trips. Problem is it has no license plate. We do not know who the original owner is to get a title. Do these even have titles? A police officer/security gaurd where I work did not think that tent campers had to have license plates in Oklahoma. I know that car trailers do not need them. We do not want to fix the camper until we know for sure.

I can't say for Oklahoma.

In NJ & PA our pop up (folding tent) trailer has to have a plate. If the title is missing, there are ways to get a replacement. My sister in law works for the local motor vehicles office so she always helps us out with things like that. But NJ is different than most states.

We have to have one for our pop-up in Texas. I really don't know about Oklahoma. Just call your local DMV. They will be able to tell you.

The following information is from the OK Dept of Moptor Vehicles
Noncommercial Vehicle Registration

Noncommercial registration rates apply to automobiles; non commercial and non agricultural trucks; travel trailers; motor homes; motorcycles and mopeds.

Noncommercial vehicles are registered on the basis of their year of registration, as follows:
1st through 4th year of registration $93.00
5th through 8th year of registration $83.00
9th through 12th year of registration $63.00
13th through 16th year of registration $43.00
17th year and over $23.00

OK, so what does OK consider a travel trailer?
Travel Trailers. Travel trailers are any vehicular portable structure built on a chassis and used as a temporary dwelling for travel, recreational or vacation use. The dimensions of a travel trailer cannot exceed 40 feet in length (including hitch or coupling) or 8 feet in width.

So it would appear that registration is required as the definition fits a pop up. You will need to call them fo find out the facts.

Yes you will need to register it and get plates. Good luck without a title. I've gone camping numerous times in OK (we live near Dallas) and I don't think I've ever seen a car trailer of any type without plates on the highway.

Car trailers are exept from license plates. I am not sure why. We may just forget the Pop up. It needs lots of work and we only camp out 4 to 5 nights. I really wanted it to store stuff in, tents, luggage, ect.

I will call the DMV to double check.

Thanks Tigger
