Do Strollers Really Get Taken?

We did accidentally take someone elses stroller once but have never had a stroller taken at DL and have probably taken one (sometimes fairly expensive strollers) close to 100 times (at least once a month for....6+ years?). Even when I stole someone elses stroller mine was there waiting for me when I realized my friend had grabbed the wrong stroller and we went back. You'll see at Disney that there are MANY FAR more expensive strollers then your own. Like $400+ strollers just sitting there amongs all the $50 Gracos. I'd be worried if I was the owner of one of those strollers but for the rest of us I really think it's a non issue. I would guess that you have a better chance of your car being taken from the mall parking lot then of your personal stroller being taken from DL.

Now Disney strollers. We very very rarely have rented them, but I wouldn't be all that suprised if they were accidentally (or unpurpose) taken.

My Mclaren never got stolen and we've brought it twice (though not everyday, we mostly used a double graco we bought for the trip). I wouldn't say we were "lucky". Just that the people that did get theirs stolen were unlucky.

Bad things like that are going to happen everywhere, sometimes.

Our house was robbed about a year and a half ago. They tore the entire house apart. Stole our computers (which had all the pictures from the last YEAR on them...yes, stupid us for not putting them on disk much sooner!), video camera, cameras, dh's VERY expensive tv crap (dvd player, vcr, cables, reciever, etc.), and a bunch of other stuff.

They did leave our strollers, though. Sorry for digressing.

No they don't have doubles. Not only that but they DO NOT recline. It is not suitable for a newborn at all. I personally wouldnt' even use it for a 1 year old since they could not nap and get comfortable and I like to recline mine and change my kids in the back with a changing pad under them! Much easier, faster and cleanerthan using the restroom ones all the time, especially with you having two in diapers.

Also just for pure comfort level of cushion (there is none) and storage for two little ones (very little storage) I would take your own.

We have 3 strollers, a Peg Perego P3, a Graco Quattro Tour (came with our travel system) and a Jeep umbrella stroller.

We only use the Graco (if we are going to be there all day) and Jeep (if we are only going to be there for a few hours or if i'm going alone with DD since it's easier for me to get on/off the tram, etc with her and it) when going to Disneyland.

There are too many crooks in this world period. But yeah, i'd rather have the cheap(er) strollers get stolen instead of the expensive one.

Better safe than sorry

I do leave a small bag (usually shopping or grocery bag) in the basket of the stroller with things like some extra diapers/wipes, water, snacks, blanket, extra jacket, etc that I don't want to carry around and wouldn't freak out about if they were stolen.

I only leave items that wouldn't kill me if they were stolen.

As for DOUBLE STROLLER RENTALS, i'm looking online and it looks like only WDW has double stroller rentals. Disneyland only offers the single at $8.00 per day (and they don't recline).

Disney's policy is that you are not allowed to lock strollers; they need to be able to move strollers around a bit to keep walkways clear, so they don't want you locking your stroller to something else, or making it so they can't move it.

However, I did use the wheel lock feature on my MacLaren to prevent the back wheels from moving. The stroller is still easily moved using the front wheels, but perhaps less likely for someone walking by to grab and roll away.

I still say your best bet to not only get your stroller taken but to find yours is to attach something very brightly colored to your stroller with your name on it. Our luggage tags are BRIGHT yellow with a Mickey on them and our name printed in HUGE letters across the back. If it did get taken I would have to assume the person did it on purpose not just a case of mistaken stroller identity.

Nope, but some people bring in doubles which look like a match to the singles in Disney's fleet. We bring a dark green double side-by-side and have been stopped in the park numerous times by people asking where they could rent one.

Yes. While Disney won't allow chaining your stroller to one of their trees, fences, garbage cans, and so forth......what you can do is chain the stroller tire to the stroller frame, or chain the two back tires together, or however it would work with your particular stroller.

We always lock ours. It's an expensive stroller, though it doesn't look that way anymore as we've worn it into the ground . I'd just hate to have it taken and ruin our trip. It's easy peasy to lock it and unlock it. Really not much hassle. So that's what we do.

...what you can do is chain the stroller tire to the stroller frame, or chain the two back tires together, or however it would work with your particular stroller.

The above is what we do as well. Bike chains/locks can be cumbersome and heavy, so an idea is to use something like a ski lock, which is very compact and light to carry:

Since we have a double SBS, the ski lock cable isn't long enough for us to use, so instead we use a long cable and lock that we used to use for our old car cover, like this:

The cable above is thin enough to thread through the wheel spokes of our Maclaren Twin Traveller and long enough to lock all wheels.

Takes only a minute or so to do and gives us peace of mind. A CM can then move our stroller if needed and discourages potential thieves to take our stroller because they can't move the wheels or close it unless the cables are cut.
