Do strollers really get stolen?

We want to bring our own instead of renting. However, I have heard that they can be stolen while you are on rides. Does this really happen? Or at least, does this really happen enough that we should be concerned? Should I just buy a cheap one from Craigslist that I wouldn't care if it was stolen? Thanks!

I'm not a veteran here so I've not heard other people's stories but we've been 3 times and never had any problems. We bring our own stroller (a McLaren), tie a balloon to it and it's always there when we get off. Sometimes it may be moved by a CM but always pretty easy to find. :goodvibes

We have been going since 2003 and have never had our stroller stolen or anything taken.

We have brought our MacLarens and the last trip I brought our Baby Jogger with us no problems

I don't think stolen is really the right word, per say. I haven't really heard of them being out right taken, but if it is a popular brand or color then someone might mistakenly take yours instead of theirs. That happened to us, but it really wasn't a big deal. Just try and do something to really differentiate yours from others.

I don't know if this is considered stealing, but two years ago while we were in the Johnny and the Sprites concert our stroller was taken, but we waited until everyone was out of the concert and the stroller that was left was just like ours. It was lime green with polka dots. So our feeling was that the people that took it thought ours was theirs. But ours did have our name and cell phone number along with lots of ribbon and green mickey head tie-ons on it so they should have called but they did not. Their stroller wasn't tagged. I was extremely upset because ours was a brand new stroller, purchased just for our trip and the one that was left was not in terrible shape but was obviously not new. We trashed it at the airport.:) so my suggestion is to mark your stroller good.

It's mostly the Disney strollers that get taken I never had our own stroller taken

Thanks. You've put me at ease about bringing our own stoller. And yes, I do feel silly now that I see another stroller thread posted about 15 down from mine.

Mine was taken once, but it was a case of mistaken identity. It was a bit of an ordeal, but we got ours back! Other than that, we've had no stroller issues at all.

My BIL's parents had one taken before while in line for a ride. They had two strollers parked and when they got out there was only one of the strollers left. They never found their other one or one that looked like the one they had.

Mine was taken once also over by the castle and turned up in frontier land. I was horribly upset as it was a new MacClaren purchased for the trip. We were walking around and found it in frontierland outside Country Bears, I had it marked with our name on the frame, so I confirmed it was mine and took it back:). I am sure though that it was just mistaken for their own.

my stroller was stolen. you can search for threads that I have started to read the story.

To ease your fears, we have been to Disney about 10 times (not sure of count) and nothing like this happened to us until this past December. We have left cameras, camcorders, and souvenirs in the stroller and always felt safe. Never again for me though.

Ours was taken on the first day of our first trip. But as others have said, it was mistaken identity. We didn't feel right taking the stroller that was left because we knew it wasn't ours. We told a CM and they called security, I believe. We made a report and they gave us a free stroller rental for the rest of our stay. They even upgraded it to a double even though we had a single taken. Very nice.
We brought our own strollers on our last trip and I made sure to mark them with ribbons. No problems at all.

We have taken lots of strollers Pegs, Macs, etc. Never thought of it and never had them touched but as the prices on rentals went up so did my fear of ours walking away.

We took our Phil & Teds double and locked it when we were there a week ago. Never locked it to anything just wound up the wheels, but our DS #1 has low tone issues (amoungst other special needs) and we NEED our stroller so if it weren't there we'd be having to shell out $550 at USA Baby down the street and would put a cloud over our vacation for sure.

We've been to the world about 2x's per year for the past 5 years.. with many, many types and brands of strollers, without a problem.

We have had our stroller "relocated" but it just took a deep breath and a careful look to find it among the sea of strollers.

I wouldn't leave anything overtly valuable "IN" the stroller (camera, wallet, etc), but given the millions of visitors per year, and from the talk on the DIS boards, I would think the potential of having a stroller actually "stolen" (as in, never to be seen again) is pretty low.
