Do shirts have to be 100% cotton?

I've gotten my shirts from Michaels, but they're only 50%cotton, and 50% polyester? Will they still work? I just wash them in plain water or with laundry soap? I've made them before but they always crackle after the 1st wash, so I think I'm doing something wrong. Thanks!

No they do not have to be 100%. I exclusively used the Michael's 50/50 shirts, and they work great! I know a ton of people on here use them as well. :goodvibes

Yes, wash them before ironing the design on with soap, but NO fabric softners in the detergent or the dryer. Also it helps keep them nice (so I've heard) to never use fabric softners with them. If you're having issues with cracking, you could try the stretchable transfers. They stretch with the shirt. :) Avery makes light ones that are comparible to regular ones (I got mine at WalMart), and I got the Tailor Dark "Soft n Stretchy" Transfers at Michaels. Good luck!

I'm just a first timer here...but I bought 50/50 shirts at AC Moore and had no problem whatsoever using them with Avery Transfers. Use the light transfer paper for lighter shirts and the dark transfer paper for orange or darker shirts.

As for cracking, I turned mine inside out, used a cup of white vinegar only and hung it to dry outside. Doing that was fine, didn't crack, didn't fade.

My dryer seems to do the same thing---I think it's too hot, even on its low cycle.

Best of Luck
