Do rental car prices change from week to week?

What I mean is, I checked National to see what the rates are for our December trip- I can get a great deal on it with some of the codes, but I don't have the money right now to reserve it. Will the rates change much between now and then?

You don't have to pay to make a reservation, just a credit card # to hold it. They don't charge it until you return the car.

Prices can definitely change, quite quickly and dramatically. I made a reservation for the end of November for $132, it jumped up to $180 the next time I checked it. They can also drop if there isn't high demand. My last reservation dropped from about $150 to $97! I rebooked it 4 or 5 times along the way.

we booked through ez-rent a car and didn't even need a cc# to hold it. $100 for 6 days is a great price. We booked for Feb.2006 for 10 days @ $206 mid size and that is great since then I check everywhere every day and it's now the cheapest @ $300-$400 book it and check everyday every where

If you book through Emerald Club or Quick Rent, you need a credit card # but you can skip the counter that way. If you have a counter reservation, I believe they do not require a credit card # but you have to stand in line.
