Do Poly HA rooms have 2 queens or 1 king?

Actually I believe that four of the suites have enough accomodation to be considered HA. Because they were built prior to the ADA, and they offer some level of accomodation, they actually are within the law that says "reasonable accomodation."

DH and I sometimes stay at a B&B whose owners were taken to court because they only have one out of 16 rooms that's accessible, and it's one of the more expensive rooms. Well, it's a 100+ year old facility with three stories and no elevator in the main building, and all the guest rooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floor. So they converted one of the carriage house suites--all single floor and located behind the main house. Somebody was demanding that they either get to rent that suite repleat with fireplace and walk-in jacuzzi at the same price as the lowest price room, or install an elevator. The owners fought it and won. They made a reasonable accomodation by coverting the suite closest to the main house and do offer it for less than the other suites, although the others have a river view and that one doesn't--they chose to convert that one to keep it as close as possible so mobility impaired people would have a shorter distance in bad weather. I guess sometimes you can't win even when you do the right thing.

The HA rooms at the GF are far from the worst views. In fact at least two of them are two of the best locations at the resort--one is dead on castle view on the second or third floor of Conch Key, the other is just off the lounge on the third floor of the RPC overlooking the quiet pool. (Over half of those rooms overlook the quiet pool.)

When I called the GF, they told me there were no handicapped rooms overlooking the Magic Kingdom. Gah. That just makes me even more upset; once again we were lied to. They need to create a fact sheet for handicapped rooms and hand them out to everybody so you don't get two different answers for the same question.

Actually you need to call special services, they will be able to give youa ccurate info.

There is definitely a direct MK View HA room with pocket door to the bathroom, entry pad, roll-in shower, two queens and a daybed, lower clthes bar in the closet, lower peephole, etc. I've stayed in it. If you need me to look up the room number, I'd be happy to do so.

Special services basically yelled at me that I couldn't call them. It was the travel agents job to call them. The only question I asked is if the GF had MK view handicapped rooms, and she went into a fit saying she couldn't say if they did because she doesn't want to be held reliable.

The room number would be fantastic! I'm kinda worried about the sugar loaf rehab in september, so knowing that there IS another room I could go to would be really nice :)

I think some of the problem at the GF about being told that there isn't a room with a MK view might be that there is a room but it's already booked by someone else. Since it's already booked they say there are none available.

The room is 7328. It's an utterly fabulous room as far as the view. The only thing we didn't like about it was that we didn't need the accessible-ness, and the clothes rod was too low so my dresses were wrinkled, and we had really wanted a tub. We weren't happy that we were assigned a room that someone else might NEED.

I have to agree about the low clothes rods at Disney.

They should install the clothes rods that lower with a pull strap and then can be pushed back up to the normal heights so the rod can be lowered only when needed.

Those were the type of clothes rods we had in our accessible cabin on the Millennium Ship on Celebrity Cruise Line .

Shovan, we loved breakfast a la carte at Tangaroa Terrace. In later years, a good buffet was served there too although you could still order a la carte including Tonga Toast. I don't think we ever went to a character breakfast there. Our first one was in 1983 at the South SEas Room which was on the first floor where Boutiki is now....the very front of that space. It later became a concierge lounge and then that art store. Then the breakfast was upstairs in Papeete Bay Verandah for some years. The one at Tangaroa Terrace must have either been before 83 or after my kids were older. Ah, memories. The Snack Isle made a decent pizza too which was convenient.

ohdisco, we've had that room in Conch Key three times now. The view is fantastic. But Special Services seems reluctant to give out room numbers. I can imagine some reasons why. Perhaps if you request Conch Key and are booked MK view, you will be lucky. But I'm sure any MK view room would be great. But book early to get the room category you want.

Anne, I wouldn't worry about getting an accessible room that someone else needed. It would have been blocked if someone needed it.

We are planning a trip in 3 to 4 months after my daughter is recovered from surgery. We are planning to stay at the Polynesian, we thought it be best choice because of the monorail and the rooms seem to be a bit larger than most. My question is if you dont need an assesible room (roll in shower) which rooms are the closest to the monorail and restraunts (sp?)? My daughter is in a wheelchair but only weighs about 40 pounds, we help her with bathing so we don't need the roll in shower. Any other information about the polynesian would be great. Are all the rooms newly remodeled or just some of them? We are not that big on views, but we like to be close to everything in the hotel. We usually stay at the AKL, and you can have quite a hike to get breakfast, or any meal for that matter. But our daughter loves it. We would like to give the polynesian a try, and like the idea of the monorail being on the hotel site. Also, one more question, does anyone know of any speacial savings at the poly in the next few months??
Thank you,
Lisa

Raratonga sounds ideal for you. It is literally seconds away from the GCH. One side faces the quiet pool and the other the monorail and some lovely plantings. The parking lot is on that side too but there is a hill and tons of landscaping so every post I've seen about being on that side has been positive as are all about the pool side. The pool is also hidden by landscaping.

After the halls at AKL, you will think you have died and gone to heaven.

I know Tikikman is having a Tikifest this summer with some great rates. But if like us you prefer to go in cooler months, keep an eye on the codes and rates board for ideas on savings.

When you request whichever longhouse you would like, I would mention the reason you would like it.
