Do people think you are crazy?

Let me preface this by saying Goofy is my favorite character. I just got back from DW and while at HS, we did the animation instruction as usual. When the animator announced the character we were drawing was Goofy, I yelled out "YES!!!!" and threw up my arms. I turned to my right and there was this woman looking at me like I was completely INSANE I just said, "He's my favorite character" to which she just rolled her eyes and looked away.

Anyone else have something like this happen?

Not exactly the same but I had a meeting last night with all the fellow college students in my student teaching "class" and all of our mentor teachers. They made us go around the room say our name, where we were from, and something interesting about it.

I informed my colleagues and professors that I am obsessed with Disney World. That was the most interesting thing I could think of about myself. LOL

I get a lot of BAER at work. My coworkers just don't get my obsession with Disney. I bought Princess lip balm...complete with Princess bling...a big shiny rhinestone on the cap. I've been teased for a week about that one...everytime I use it they say something like "oh look, there's her Princess lip balm". Two coworkers run together every night after work. I guess they were discussing my Disney obsession while they ran last week.

Oh well. We all have hobbies, right? Mine is Dising and obsessing about my trip. When it's over I'll just start planning the next one, even if it's 2 year away.

My DS10 loves Goofy!!!!!! When he was seven we went to disneyland and he wore his goofy shirt with "Goofy" written on the back. As we were walking through toontown minding our own business, Goofy came up out of nowhere and tapped him on the shoulder. My son looked like a deer in the headlights!! He gave him a hug, took a picture and then took off. A crowd of kids gather for pics, but he only gave one to my son. I guess he was on his way to something. Anyway, moral of the story is, wear your lime green Goofy shirt proudly! BTW, it no longer fits him but her refuses to give it away, says it's his good luck charm.

I totally get what you are saying. My husband doesn't understand my Disney obsession. The people at work consider me "eccentric" with my disney ringtones and computer wallpaper. At least now I have a 3 year old daughter that I can have fun with. She has made a trip to DW every year since birth. Hopefully she and I can continue this tradition for a long time.

Gee, OP, I think your response to learning to draw Goofy was pretty normal...If I had been there, I would have grinned at you and shared your excitement!

Although, I am not exactly normal myself......I went to Guest services, found out where and when Dopey would be appearing and arrived early so I would be the first one in line, wearing, of course, my Dopey T-shirt that I made from a design on the Creative DISigns board....

But seriously, we were at the WDW! Isn't that part of why we came?

excuse me, but you were at disney. what's the problem with showing some disney enthusiasm? that woman clearly doesn't get true disney spirit and had probably been coerced there by some other family member.

we deal with stuff like this all the time, especially from my brother in law who is apparently too good for disney. he typically spouts off a bunch of nonsense about disney corporation also having a porn operation but really? i don't care!!! i love disney - i plan to keep going back - end of story!!!

I agree with every single poster here. Why go to Disney if you can't act silly and goofy and have a tonne of fun! That's what Disney is all about-relive your inner child, cry when you walk through the gate at the Magic Kingdom, sing during a parade and hug your favourite character!

On our trip in Sept. -07 my DH practically cried when he met Mr. and Mrs. Incredible! He had to pose for his own pictures with them and bragged to everyone back home that Mr. Incredible showed him how to stand just like him! Of course my DH was wearing his Mr. Incredible shirt at the time- so it was just perfect.
There is nothing wrong with having a Disney Character Hero! I can think of some wonderful traits that Goofy has and can only say that more people should emulate him!
I happen to LOVE Sulley from Monsters Inc. When I met him for the first time I ran right up to him and gave him a huge hug! My girls were left in the dust and I didn't care! It was all about Sulley for me.
So... I think you are perfectly normal and it's that poor unhappy woman who I feel bad for.

Thank goodness I found this thread! My friends all think I am nuts! I love to take goofy pictures with the characters and I take Pal Mickey everywhere at Disney World! I have gotten a few funny looks from people as I stroll through the parks having a conversation with him.

I am just a big kid when I am there. I believe it is part of the Magic!

I love WDW and could go on for hours about it. My friends don't think I'm crazy, it's worse: they think I'm cliche. I have had many comments made about how it would be better spending our money on an educational trip, or going to Europe, or a better TV or a newer car.

We're a military family and my 9 yo DD has seen way more of this country than most kids her age, and my DH has seen the world so many times he yawns at the mention of an overseas trip. When we are at WDW it's like only our little family exists and like we are being taken care of. So, call us cliche but don't call my room at POP b/c I'm doing The World!

I understand completely!! My husband and I go to DW twice a year and we have back-to-back cruise booked for June 2010. We recently adopted a retired racing greyhound and named him Dash from the Incredibles. My brother asks where we are going on vacation and when I say Disney of course he tells me that there are other places to go other than Disney. He just doesn't get it and neither do our co-workers. Their loss!!!!

I bet that woman is obsessed with Precious Moments and has a house full of cats and very few friends and family who want to associate with her.

Everyone has a thing, know what I mean? Whether it be Football, Pottery, Boy Bands, Animals, Star Wars...everyone has something they are very interested in. It's healthy and the woman who rolled her eyes at you was probably just mad that the animator was not drawing a crack pipe or something. As I said...we all have something.

I'm just thankful my something isn't drugs or alcohol.

So do not feel bad that your "thing" is Disney. It could be much, much worse.

That is so true everyone has a "thing". Many people just don't get the whole disney obsession =/
The BF and I were watching something on TV and Mickey Mouse came out and I screamed "MICKEY MOUSE!" totally embarassed myself even though we've been together long enough he should understand my love for Disney. At work my nickname is Mickey Mouse, lol. No one there gets it either. Oh well...we all have each other on the DIS boards =)
