Do people REALLY ask for an extra bun for a double burger????

absolutely! It's the best kept secret at WDW:teeth: Even the CMs don't know about it!

Why be embarrased? It's on Disney's computer system, it's a legitimate purpose, and I'm sure the CMs have heard of every request under the sun and some where the sun don't shine:crazy:

I've heard for bizarre things at the food counters there, and usually the cms don't even bat an eye. :)

Yep, I did. The first time I asked for a bun only I had my great nephew who will not eat the meat just the bun. When I found out how cheap a bun was and how hassle free it is to order, they have a special key all set up for bun only, I ordered double cheese burger and an extra bun for my mom and sister to share.

Why would you be embarrassed? Disney serves large portions. Personally I can't eat all that food, especially when it's hot out. DD and I like to share.

I am ordering just a bun next trip since everytime I order my son something with bread, he only eats the bread and nothing inside it!

I know they serve large portions on some things and I have split meals before, like bowls of pasta or large salads but I just don't think I would split a hamburger like that. Guess its just a personal hang up.

But, I do say any way you can save money, GREAT!:D

One of my DD's favorite meals is bread with 'white butter' (vs. peanut butter - that descriptive term is from when she was very little). I'm always afraid of what the school will think if she tells them she had bread and butter (ONLY!!) for supper!! So I actually am glad to be aware of this 'secret'.

but I just don't think I would split a hamburger like that.
At Beaches and Cream it comes out already split into two hamburgs. The fries and pickle are split also.

We were just in Disney last week and I ordered a double hamburger with an extra bun and the CM told me "that's the way to do it"! She also told me to buy a large soda and she will give me extra cups at no charge. The next day I ordered again and the CM had no problem and commented on how expensive the food was at Disney and she would give me an extra plate and we could make a salad out of the fixins bar. I had all positive experiences with CM's and even a few good budget ideas.

I did this at Pecos Bill's one night. It was one of the few times my son and I could agree on a meal to share. This was the only meal during our 10 day trip that we both were able to finish.

Disney gives you a lot of food. I'd rather order an extra bun and split the double burger with my son, than order 2 meals and end up trashing most of the food.

What a tip!!
Thats one I have NEVER heard before.. Sounds like I might try that with DH and me in Oct..
:)

I once saw someone making a "salad" at Peco Bills, personally I don't think that's why they have a fix it bar.

Not the same exactly, but my mom used to manage a McDonald's, and they would have people order the cheeseburger without the cheese, or a hamburger without the meat.........

I'd much rather ask for an extra bun!

While in line at the counter-service in America(in Epcot), my husband and I were discussing purchasing a large meal for our young son because they did not offer a kids hamburger meal. The CM overheard us, and SUGGESTED we order the double burger for husband, and an extra bun for our son. Until then, I had never heard of this(or would have even thought it possible). I was so grateful for his suggestion...it saved us $6-7. I would not be the least bit embarrassed to do this now. To be honest, I am more embarrassed by the portion size of our meals...most people consume in 3 meals what some Americans consume in 1...or the alternative...we purchase a big meal, then throw most of it away.

When I was in college, I used to order a "Gator cheeseburger all the way without the burger"--that's how to get a cheese, lettuce, and tomato sandwich at a cafeteria that doesn't offer any vegetarian food (that was back in the 70s--I'm sure college cafeterias all offer SOMETHING vegetarian these days). :p

Is $1.10 the set price for a bun throught WDW?

I used to order McDonald's Big Macs minus the meat. I just loved the special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and onions on a sesame seed bun!!::yes::

An extra bun that you pay for would be no problem for me- but a salad from the fixins bar is pushing the free issue to far. (IMHO)
