Do people in your "real life" understand your love of the DIS??

Being a stay at home mom, I get those looks whenever I mention the DIS board or the few parrot and golden retriever groups I'm on. Hubby usually rolls his eyes when I start the conversation with..."someone on the board said..."

They just don't understand that the next best thing to being at WDW is being able to chat with others who are just as nuts about it as you are!!;)

No one knows either.

I never talk about it, but I can't believe the people that I know that still go to Disney and don't have a clue about anything.

Sometimes someone will casually say something about WDW and I don't say to much, but when I get to add to the conversation and add a really decent tip, they look at me like how do you know that? I usually just give them this web page.

Not only do they NOT understand it, but I think my husband was a bit concerned when I first started DISing regularly. Now, he just wants me to find great deals/info for our WDW trip...

He likes to read page after page of Ebay items, so I think he is the weird one.

Hubby is greatful for the DIS...keeps me occupied while he's sleeping. He also appreciates the travel advice and the discount info I get on here, except that I formulated a commando touring plan for the last week in September, and we could have basically scooted on our bottoms and STILL got to see everything.

People at work are amazed at the deals I've gotten on WDW trips, so they are curious...I've turned a couple on to the DIS, but so far they haven't registered.

My family knows I'm on here, and they don't get it....they arn't into WDW like me, though. Usually, I don't say anything....they just don't get it :p

But, I did tell my best friend stuff, and she decided to come and hang out here...her computer broke like the day after she joined, so she hasn't gotten the full wonderfulness of you guys yet!! She can understand WDW though, she lived in Florida for 7 years!! ::yes::

I really don't tell too many people about the dis...I like it to be my secret :smooth: . My dh doesn't get it, especially when I start talking in dis speak (you know MK, MVMCP, etc.). He think I'm cukoo  . This from the guy who wouldn't even read the trip report I wrote about our first trip. He told me he lived the trip, why would he want to read about it  ?? I think he's a lost cause ::yes:: .

I'm really lucky....my DH "gets it" but he isn't at all interested in getting on these boards. When he comes in from his job, he hears ALL about something that happened on here and he's kind enough to just smile. :teeth: The thing that amazes us both is that "locals" we know have NO IDEA what all WDW has to offer. They keep asking why we go so often!!! :rolleyes1

LOL! I started a similar post to this! I'm so thankful for this place, for it gives me a place to come to get my disney fill! :D

No one in my house knows about the DIS. If I say anything I learned about WDW or Sea World and they ask where I learned it I just tell them I have my sources. They'd KNOW I was crazy about Disney if they knew about this website. Right now they only think that.

For the most part, my real life people understand. Many of them have experienced first-hand the benefits of the valuable knowledge I've gained here.

Oh! I've always wanted to be someone's imaginary friend! Kind of like Snufflupagus!:p

My DH actually found the DIS and was first to signup when we were planning our honeymoon in 2000. He still lurks...rarely posts, though. As for my family and friends, I don't talk about it too much. And if I do talk about my friends on here, I'll say "A friend said" or "My friend from Minnesota said" etc. None of my friends frequent message boards.

What's weird is when folks are planning a WDW trip or have just returned from one and I'm asking all these detailed questions about all the resorts and amenities ("Did you just love Storm Along Bay?" "Did you have a Savannah View?") and DH is beside me thinking "Why is she freakishly knowledgable about WDW?"

my DM has never been on a computer before, so she has no frame of reference about message boards, all she has to hear is internet and she thinks evil!! I keep trying to tell her what a wonderful place this is, but she can't get past the evil internet part.

Yeah everyone pretty much thinks im nuts!
My mom is cool with it, i send her links to different threads and she has met some other DISers, she even wears lime green when we go....but when I go with my DH, I don't wear the green, he just isn't into it at all, however if he sees lime green he might say "hey there is a diser" LOL

We actually met some DISers on our Disney Cruise, there was no lime green so he was ok with it...LOL

When I talk about it to people that have never heard of it, I just say "this Disney Message board that im on" they even think that is nuts...if I went into detail and said the DIS (I pronounce it DIZ) and talked about meets and lime green, they would really think im nuts!!

But hey, im in good nutty company!! :bounce:
