Do people criticize you because you go to Disney

I always get the reactions that everyone has said before. But at the same time. I just got to take my sister down there, who is 6 years older than me, and I'm planning on taking my dad down there. But everyone I know is tired of trying to talk me out of it, and now they just ask me when the next trip down is. LOL.

Alot of people just don't understand. It's like those who have never been in the military and you have; They just don't understand.

However every once in a while you meet fellow Disneyaholics and you had no idea they loved Disney, too. In February, My wife and I walked into DL and lo and behold, who do we meet? Our neighbors from across the street! Talk about a surprise. They're AP holders too. Neither of us knew. There's more of us out there than you'd suspect. :cool1:

1984 we had the Fla. Resident 3 Seasons Pass....we lived in Tampa and people thought we were nuts to spend weekends in Wilson World Hotel and all day at Disney.
Well each year we would hear about their vacations and everyone of them had a mountain of snafus that don't seem to happen in WDW.
After living in Ohio and Maryland we still make our trek (only missed trips between 2003-2005 for Kidney Cancer and a job loss/transfer)
We like the safety
We like the variety
We like the weather
Being DVC members some foke don't understand, but then they will be the family that buy week 44 at some crazy single location time share because it looked good at the Free Weekend. You can't reason with those people!
You can tell them it is never the same each time you go-they still have that unbelieving look just because it is "Disney".
That's OK- MORE ROOM FOR US!

Funny....My friends always make fun of me because I try to go at least twice a year.....but these same friends come to me to help them plan their Disney vacation.

DH & I love going to Disney. We don't have any kids and people always criticize us because we love going to Disney. They feel we should be vacationing somewhere else since we don't have kids. They just don't get that Disney is not just for kids. Anyways, I'm just wondering if anyone else gets those same dumb comments and snide remarks from people?

yes i do get that remark......my aunt the other day said..how many times ya'll went to disney last year?......i said 2......it's like i think it bothers them...lol.but we love it there and as long as i'm not asking them to pay our trip.....it's my family making memories there...lifes so short...live it up if you can...:dance3:

My family and most friends understand my regular visits to WDW.

The people who don't understand my love of Disney are non-Disney-loving women that I have tried to date. I actually had a woman tell me on the flight back from a long-weekend at Old Key West (my home resort) that I shouldn't expect to visit there annually after we were in a committed LTR. :scared1: We broke up three weeks later.

A few other women told me that they couldn't believe that I put my love of visiting WDW in my profile on a well-known, non-Disney, Internet dating site. Yet, these same women wrote about their love and desire to travel the globe.

oh well you find out how much in common you had with those women before at least ......BE HAPPY!!! that's all that counts...:yay:

Those people make me sad! You can travel the world and see lots of fabulous places, but Disney is a place where you're free to be a kid and indulge your inner-crazy :)

that is true about disney.....i feel free from everything....i try taking care of everything before going...so my mind is fully on disney.......i feel young again like a kid.:wizard:

So far I've only received positive responces! :thumbsup2 It's probably because I'm always soooo excited to tell everyone about the savings I get (non-peak times), the friends we always take (another couple that is in their 50's...we are in our 30's!), the great weather, the magic...smells and sounds and lights!!!! I always offer to plan their trips for them when they are ready to experience the magic "the right way!" :rotfl2:

All the time!! I also get the comments and the eye rolling. But what I find interesting is that these same people also go to the same vacation destinations year after year. One couple goes to Aruba every year and another goes to Vegas. I have never made comments or rolled my eyes at them when they have mentioned an upcoming vacation to these places. I have asked what they did on their trip and the answers are:

Aruba – laid by the pool, went to the beach, drank at the bar, and ate.
Vegas – gambled, went to shows, ate.

Now when they ask me what I did, here is my answer:

Laid by the pool, went to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney Studios, Animal Kingdom, Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach. Rented a surrey, horseback riding, dinner shows, resort hopping, Richard Petty speedway, Keys to the Kingdom tour, F&W festival…

I could go on and on. The point is, compared to their vacations and mine. Disney has MUCH more to offer than theirs. When someone asks me why Disney all the time, I respond – If you can’t find something to do at Disney, then you are going to have a hard time anywhere you vacation!! Many of them are surprised when they hear everything that there is to do at WDW.

This is my first real trip to WDW (went for one day in 1998, spontaneous) and I've had very positive reactions from everyone I've told about my trip. Everyone says is happy and excited for me. When I tell them I'm going solo, sometimes they question me, like "You're going alone?", and why I'm going alone and that I'm so excited, their reaction is positive. I've been told I'm so brave to be going solo. I'm very surprised that no one has critisized me or said its childish... that was what I was expecting. :)

I just seem to get the eye rolls  when i mention my next trip or the "why don't you try some place new" they just don't know about the magic of the worldpixiedust:
