Do people criticize you because you go to Disney

I've gotten the comment "With all the money you're spending on going to Disney you could go somewhere really nice." Generally that's followed by listing islands (bahamas and such) and nice beaches (like cancun).
My answer is always that I think Disney is nicer, and much more fun. If they like beaches, they can go to beaches. :P

My wife and I have been going to WDW once a year since 2004 and we'll be going again in May 2008 for trip #5. We love it and love everything Disney. We look forward to getting away from reality every year.

The only people that give us any slack are my parents, mostly my dad. He's beyond old fashioned and thinks it's childish, babyish, and a waste of money. I think it's sad, but nothing is taking away or enjoyment.

People ususally start off asking how many times have I been this year. :lmao:
I have tried to explain that its more than just the parks.

The resort :thumbsup2 aspect is what we love about going, safe, clean, great resturants, great long walks(with music piped in!) Lots of professional photographers and pixie dust in the form of the fireworks...we love epcot!

We love the belleview lounge in the boardwalk hotel. Games, cocktail, and a cigar for my hubby on the patio. Very relaxing way to end the day. We still go to other places but this is our favorite!

Usually when I say all that they kind of shut up. I have even had a few ask if they could join us before. This year the husband of a friend I never thought would come is joining us for the food and wine festival. I think he will be surprised by how much he will enjoy himself:banana:

Not only am I being criticized for going to Disney "again" no one can understand why I would want to go by myself.
I don't let it bother me. I am 37 years old and I can spend my money anyway I want

I'm with ya!! I'm 39 and single as well, and took my first solo last year, the previous times were with my sister, nieces and mom. I get the same here here at work, no one understands and i get the "Your going again?" and "Why would you want to go by yourself?"..... but as Karalea says "I can spend my money anyway I want!" But then the funny thing is... is when they decide they want to take the trip, guess who they come to for info! ME! :rotfl:

And actually i still havent seen everything, i've been 3 years in a row, and i tour commando style.... unfortunately i wont be able to make it this year, due to a move and buying new furniture... Rats! But will be going next May! AGAIN!!

I know where your coming from. everyone I know hits me up for Disney info as well when they decide to go. :thumbsup2

And my DW and I are going in May 2008 as well, when are you planning on going?

BigGreen73 - I'm going the week of the 14th.... and you??

Wow - I never realized so many others got asked this question too! My DH and I are still fairly young (25 and 24). We don't have kids, and Disney holds a very special place in our heart. (DH took me there after I was real sick about 4 years ago). We just can't get enough! We are fortunate enough to live about 45 minutes from WDW and have annual passes, so we are there frequently. We had our wedding there this past January (and trying to convince non-Disney family that it was not going to be a "mickey-mouse-affair" was challenging in it's own right, but hey they didn't pay for it! :rolleyes1 ) We take short trips every year to stay on property to have mini-vacations (which are fairly inexpensive since we live so close) and don't take vacations to anywhere else. We recently got hooked on DCL, and have 2 more cruises booked! And we constantly get the "You guys are going to Disney AGAIN?" questions with the roll of the eyes. But I guess not everyone has to understand it, as long as we love it! :goodvibes

My sister makes fun of me all the time. When I showed her the dis she almost fell out of her chair. She couldn't believe there were so many "disney freaks", as she calls me. Then there are the people who look at me as though I'm the cruelest mom in the world when I tell them that our two yeard old son is not coming with us on our Disney Honeymoon. Beleive me, its hard leaving him, but it is our honeymoon.

DW and I have been going to WDW since its opening and have enjoyed it with our children and still enjoy it with our grandchildren. We make at least one trip each year (usually at Christmas) with the whole family and it is great fun to enjoy the parks with the kids. However, since living in south east Florida for the last 15 years, we also make 2 or 3 adult trips each year. As much as we love sharing this experience with the grandkids, we enjoy our time alone at WDW even more. No rushing from exhibit to exhibit. No waiting on lines. No bathroom stops to accomodate 10 people. We have seen it all and done it all, so what's the rush. We relax and go into whatever is available at the moment. Sometimes we just relax on a bench, eat our Dole Whips, and watch the other people enjoy themselves.

As a kid, my hero was Peter Pan, because he knew the secret to not growing up. We have now learned his secret.

When people ask why we go back to Disneyworld so often, we just smile at them.

Hubby and I always get the looks from his family and from co-workers. "You guys are going to Disney again?" As if it impossible to enjoy Disney if you are over the age of 12. We have been 4 times already this year and will be going 3 more times for short trips.

well, yes they do...do we care....NO we don't. :rotfl:
Before our son came along we use to travel to a different country in Europe, have been to the Bahamas, Bermuda, France, Switzerland, etc. Started to go to WDW with our son when he was 2 1/2. Have gone every year until last summer as a family. He's now 21 and in college and choses not go join us. Do we still go to WDW...YOU BET we do. It's a short flight for us (which we like now a days), plenty to do if you wish. Or if you wish, you can sit back and relax. It's a second home to us.

Yeah, I go to disney world every year in september. I just love it! I do however recommend taking your kids to Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon. I remember my parents taking us throughout 9 western states and seeing Yellowstone, Bryce Canyon (beautiful), GC and hoover Dam. This was back when you could go into the dam and take a tour. I don't think you can do that since 9/11. Too bad. Anyways, it was a trip I'll never forget.
just a short reply. we've been to gc and Hoover Dam and even Los Vegas. But nothing is more ________than wdw.No kids and in our 50's

I use to get the Disney AGAIN? from my in-laws... but they are not in my life anymore... my side of the family knows how much I love it there and it's fine with them...

Nat we really do have a lot in common. My ex in-laws used to always make comments but as you know I DON'T CARE what they think.

I only knew one person who dared to make snide little comments like that. I shut him up when I pointed out that he went to Vegas a couple of times per year and spent the same amount of money each trip. Disney's more my speed. What happens in WDW can freely be told outside of WDW.

That is soo funny! And true...:rotfl:

I hear about it alot because I just love Disney so much and want to go there at every opportunity.. Me and DD15 just went last weekend for a mom and me trip and I left DH home with the other kids.. DH told me my parents came by and when they found out where I was he said that my mom couldnt believe it and said she didnt see why I am always there when there is a Six Flags down the road.. DH's response was "Six Flags isnt the same -- even I love going to Disney world" Im so proud of him!! :cheer2: :cheer2: I think I finally converted him.. :rotfl: I was starting to wonder if he really loved going as much as I do.. but now I know.. :goodvibes he started to get a little down right before me and DD went cause he wasnt getting to go.. He's even going on a Disney cruise with me for our anniversary in February and when I mentioned about him and I going to WDW for a few days before our cruise he jumped on it..

DH & I just went about 3 weeks ago w/o our kids. We had a great time, but now we can't wait to go back with the kids! Today I told one of my friends that we were thinking about going soon & she said "Disney again?? You guys are obsessed!" I said "we sure are!"
