Do people camp out at the CS in Mexico for Illuminations?

Last week we were in World Showcase at Epcot and decided to get some yummy nachos from the counter service place in Mexico. We had eaten there before and found a table easily but this time it was about 7pm and all the tables were full. We wondered if we should even order but decided to try. Half the tables were taken up by one person not eating. The line to order food was very short so it seemed they weren't waiting for food. We wandered around with our tray for a while looking at these people but never found a table. We ended up taking our tray and food down to Norway and sat in the tables outside the bakery to eat. We wondered if Mexico was full because people were just waiting for Illuminations. If so, you'd think the restaurant would discourage that- sitting there without eating just to watch the show. This was our first visit so we have no idea about the traffic patterns. Is this typical?

And yes, we did walk all the way back to Mexico to return the tray and the basket.

I am sure at least some of the people were there for Illuminations, though 7 is pretty early.

Yes, some of those folks were waiting for illumiNations. The Cantina is one of the few seating areas with a view of IllumiNations, so people do start camping out early.

We love going for the nachos as well, but it's getting to the point where it's not worth it anymore. It's become harder and harder to find a seat to sit down and enjoy your food in the evening there. :(

We love Mexico cs as well, but have also noticed it hard to find a seat in that covered porch area. Last time we were lucky to find a seat, and we got annoyed by the birds looking for food LOL!

It's been a problem for so long, I can't remember when it wasn't. If I need to get a quick Mexican bite anywhere near show time, I sit up next to the Pyramid at those tables. I've had to stand up and use the walls sometimes. It's a pet peeve of mine.
