they do in my town when i was a child in a different area they did not  :confused3

They did up until about 4-5 years ago when a little girl ran under a float to get some candy and it didn't stop in time. That happened at the Labor Day parade in the town next to mine- the only fatality in the history of the parade. :(

They did up until about 3 years ago. Now, you can walk beside the float and hand out candy but you are not supposed to throw it. They are concerned about hitting someone with the candy.....it hasn't occurred to them that someone might get hit by a moving vehicle, yet.

uh huh, along with moon pies (cookies), beads and etc. Nothing like hearing grown adults hollering for moon pies :rotfl2:

Yes, I don't allow the kids to run out and grab it though. If it falls in our area, we'll pick it up but I'm afraid they will get hit if they run out into the street!

Yes. I thought it was fun as a kid and still do. :)

They also throw out tiny dog bones that you can bring to library with your overdue book and not incur any fines. :)

Yes, when we have our Christmas parade, my kids end up with more candy than they do at Halloween. By the end of the parade the kids are almost bored with picking up the candy.

At the beginning they grab everything, by the end it's like, "I'm only picking up the Snicker's and the Tootsie Pops", lol. (I'm partial to the candy orange slices, the caramels and the vanilla Tootsie Rolls.)

Yup, they still throw candy in our parades too. Some kids risk life and limb for it too!! It scares me. We pick up what comes near us, but I don't allow DS out in the street.

we have 2 parades a year,, one throws candy one doesnt,, one htat htrows is the christmas parade, the one that does not is the rodeo, riding club parade....

I don't know if they do here, but they (and I) did where I grew up. Candy, pennies, wooden nickels. DH claims (but I'm doubtful) they even threw out ice cream bars one year. Fun memories. :)

Don't you love the little angels on the floats that don't throw candy to the crowd but at the crowd? Gives me the warm and fuzzies everytime I get pelted. :)

Yes parades here in eastern PA still throw candyb

Home of the Mardi Gras. Beads, cups, underware, moon pies, stuffed animals. If you can imagine it, they throw it. :thumbsup2

Underwire? :rotfl: Can the audience participate? I would gladly throw mine back!

A few parades in our area throw candy from the floats. The others have people walking along dropping the candy along the curbs. I'm sure that's much safer. Kids come to the parades with huge bags to fill with candy, especially at the Christmas parade.

Santa Claus parade? Candy Canes, through lozenges (which were really good btw), peppermints, etc.

This is the same in my town and they started handing it out for the same reason, afraid the candy may injure someone.
