Hey guys, just thought I'd pass along a friendly word of warning. One of my textbooks that I had ordered from Amazon got cancelled due to the first hurricane. No big deal, I reordered from Overstock. It was the only place I could find it in stock. The order was placed on Aug. 31st and was supposed to ship in 1-4 days and then media mail was supposed to take 2-15 days. Well, I kept checking the website to see if it had left the warehouse since this was for a fairly tough class and I didn't want to get behind. I called a few times since it never said it left the warehouse, but got rude phone operators who told me I was being too inquisitive and that it would be there any day, possibly the next one. Well, let's put it this way-I STILL don't have the book. I called about 2 weeks ago and cancelled the order and it took nearly the entire 2 weeks to get my money back, even though it was only supposed to take 3-4 days. I got a long email saying that they were sorry that they were out of stock and that they hadn't figured it out until just then. I have a $5 credit for my trouble, but at this point in the semester (and a not-so-great score on the first test) it really doesn't make up for my trouble. I finally have the book, but no thanks to them. They have permanently lost my business and I want to let people know to stay away (btw another person in my class had the exact problem and he ordered his book a week or so after mine-they should have known they were out of stock by then). It's approaching Christmas and I'd hate for people to order from them and not get their Christmas presents in time.

Sorry you had a problem but we have had tons of great dealings with them.

How strange! We order from them all the time, even had some returns, and never had a problem. I hope it was just a fluke with that particular item.

(btw-I had a problem with Amazon and a book they said was in stock and it kept getting delayed and delayed. Mailed it to me 5 weeks later LONG after I needed it for class. So I returned the sucker!)

I've ordered from them before and never had any issues. I'm sorry you had a problem.

Funny you should post this... I am waiting for a credit on a return from JULY! I have emailed them repeatedly and tried online help once but got disconnected. I think I am going to go through my credit card company now.

They actually told me I couldn't get a refund at one point because you only have 20 days from the time you are supposed to receive the order to get it and it was after that time. Ugh. ALL of the people I dealt with on the phone were horribly rude too...I'm sort of glad to hear that people have had good dealings with them because I always thought they were a reputable company-until now. They narrowly missed dealing with my credit card company but are still likely to hear from the Better Business Bureau. That was just insane for it to take them that long to figure out they were out of stock in my opinion.

Boston Tea Party-Good idea going with the credit card company. That should work. You'll have to fill out a form and send it in.

Sorry you had problem, we have ordered from them many times, never with one problem and always happy with what we recived.

I had a simlar problem with strollers4less the 2nd time I ordered from them, it was a much worse problem since the stroller was $300 and they billed it and never shipped it. It took me 3 months to get it off my cc bill. I was really mad. I have known many people who had good service from them, and one other women with the same problem (at the same time,) she told me about it after I posted a thread about how distatisfed I was with them.

I have to ditto the - never had a problem with them -
and I made some big ticket purchases (down comforters, lap top case, and cameras)

::yes:: Me, too. And my order was in July as well.

I had a very bad experience with them as well. I posted a few months ago. I will not use them again. They wanted to charge me a restocking fee of over 30% of the item, less any postage charges. It was ridiculous. They kept sending me apologetic emails, but would not help.

I ended up selling the item on eBay for what it cost me. I would never send something back (unused and unopened) and pay 30% for it..... (do I look like I was born yesterday????) :-)

Sorry that you had this bad experience - join the club. There's another discussion board I frequent and they are rabid Overstock.com haters.

Don't buy anything that may be returned......you'll be sorry! :-)

Wow, how did you get them to respond to your email??

I too will never deal with them again. I bought a comforter and matching pillows for my dd's room and it took forever to get it. When it did arrive, it was the wrong size and color!???
I sent it back. They started telling me that they would re send it. When 6 weeks went by and no replacement, I finally got action through the credit card company.

Wierd - I've bought things from them (high thread count sheets) and have been very happy. I guess I should check their return policy - I never even thought about a restocking fee - I hate those!

Let me know if you get it resolved. I am looking for tips. :rotfl2:

They duplicated my order and not only sent the items twice, but charged my CC twice! I had to send the items back -- and my CC has never been credited!

Maybe we should go pay them a little visit and bring along our Cousin Vinny and Uncle Guido.....

haven't had a problem with them yet. However, I am STILL waiting for a CD from Amazon that was supposedly "in stock" on August 14.

And their friends Smith and Wesson

Or is that the cooking oil? :rotfl2:

I didn't have a huge problem, just a small one with them last Christmas. I ordered 2 pearl necklaces for presents, exact same thing. One was perfect, the other was not and I returned it. I didn't know about the restocking fee and had to suck it up. I should have checked the return policy before I ordered. But I got my credit back in a timely manner, minus 30% and shipping of course.

Thanks for the heads up. The restocking fee alone is enough to make me want to steer clear of them nevermind the taking so long to credit back a card. Seems to be a pattern here.
