We asked for housekeeping to come before 1pm (we always do that) and they came sometime when we were in the parks each morning. This was over 8 days, some days we only did parks in the morning and we napped the kids nearly every day.

With this new policy, I wonder how many people are going to start requesting housekeeping for certain times. I can see this already slowing down an already slow process with people crisscrossing the resort for housekeeping appointments.

Every guidebook I have ever read says hit the parks early, get out of the midday sun and retreat back to your room for some down time and go back to the parks for dinner and late night. And that is exactly how we tour. When staying in DVC it really didn't matter much because some shorter trips we would get no or only 1 cleaning day. But on the trips where we stayed cash, I can't tell you how many times we arrived back to the room in the early afternoon and the room still wasn't completed.

I'm sure a moderator can answer that question. I gather it was a first-time poster, the post came immediately after the new signs came out and the story didn't make a lot of sense (at least in my experience).

It is. And it sucks that we have to adjust. But before I panic I'm going to wait and see how things actually play out. Will someone "barge" in, or will they knock and then leave? Or knock and come in? Or will maid service be considered the check? If the tag is on the door will housekeeping skip over and come back later, or maybe not return at all? Too many ways this can play out.

Wondering about it and thinking of the ways it can impact us isn’t panicking.

One person’s definition of barging is different than another’s. If my husband is sleeping, he doesn’t hear a knock. So even if the housekeeper waits a minute before entering she’ll be barging in on him.

And since it’s inevitable on a vacation that he gets sick or injured, she stands a solid chance of being in a room with a sick person. Poor employee.

Interesting development from the hotel in Las Vegas. It turns out staff had contact with the shooter at least 10 times leading up to the shooting and had entered his room and saw nothing.

I'm not sure you have a solid grasp on the subject matter. Gunpowder and explosive residue are two very different things. Airports don't even test for "gunpowder".

It is a fact that countries with fewer guns have fewer gun crimes. And majorly less mass shootings. Maybe we shouldn't give out drivers licenses or make people take tests as those who want to drive will still do so? Why restrict anything if restrictions don't work? Why have a drinking age? Why have an age to by tobacco? If people want it they will get it, right?

While that wasn't my point, you are incorrect. I have no idea where these "facts" you speak of come from but the FBI, DOJ and Crime Research policy center all disagree with that.

Out of North America and Europe the US ranks far and away #1 in gun ownership but 11th in mass shootings from 2009 to 2015. Data for 2016 and 2017 isn't fully available yet.

They could, but seeing as having a firearm and ammo isn't illegal, they can't do anything about it, other than make sure the person puts it in their car or hands it over at the front desk, which most people would not be willing to do.

Good luck with that. I watched a guy refuse to walk through the metal detector and the second layer of security responded in seconds. I would like to see you refuse to leave private property carrying a weapon

I am having a couple of in room surprises for my fiance and they told me that the dnd sign shouldn't be up or they won't enter the room, I wonder if this changes things? I know she hates housekeeping because they don't change their gloves when cleaning the toilet to other things and I still don't know how to get her to take the sign down on those days without ruining the surprise.

...That not everyone arriving by dme was even on a plane. For princess weekend my cousin arrives by cheap coach from Daytona. No one has checked her bags before they are placed quickly under the bus and we head on to Wdw by dme.

I'm not downplaying any of those concerns. I just don't think bringing the Constitution and federal government into it was appropriate.

I'm not at liberty to discuss specific disciplinary actions, but we don't remove posts just because the information they contain isn't verifiable. We do, under certain circumstances, remove a person's posting privileges, and depending on the circumstances, that may involve removing posts.

Really? Never? I went to San Francisco with my shorter mom and teensy grandma in the mid 80s and we always did those things. The learned my tiny but fierce physical attitude back then.

No, never. Not the way I do now. I have always tried to get my bearings, but that was because I get lost all the time. I never made sure I had an exit strategy if I was in a crowd, never worried about my "spot" on a train in regards to the exits, never thought twice about the level of security or the lack thereof, and never needed to be fierce. I was a server when we were called waitresses, and always trusted my instincts, and do not project that I am an easy target. I do these things now, especially when I have my DGD with me. The World has changed, and being more aware is how I have adapted.

The sensor detects gunpowder contained in bullets and some bombs. The reason end users of the sensors (airports) won’t tell the public details of security methods is bad guys can use other substances to cause harm.

None of that states they entered his room. I wouldn't doubt at this point they would try and make it sound as if they did to try and lessen their culpability.

Housekeeping will be grabbing a trash can, not inspecting the room or villa. Seriously, this new "safety measure" is a PITA. It won't provide any extra security or deter any crazy person wanting to go on a rampage. It's a CYA move by Disney. The other plus? The guest will pay for Disney's enhancement. Can't wait to see the increase in my dvc dues.

I’m glad my grandma and mom helped me so early. I’m glad you’re helping your granddaughter so early.

My grandma and mom and aunt used to go into NYC on the train for one huge day of clothes shopping each year, and learned to be on their guard then. It just translated to going to the garment district in SF back when they had real outlet shopping. Sketchy area back then!

I don't care if they come into my room every day, but if I'm taking a nap or showering in the middle of the day when housekeeping is working the area, how can I stop them from knocking on the door without a Do Not Disturb sign?
