I have thought a lot about adding FP+ to Magic Kingdom and I got to say I think I'm against it.
In the "olden days" before FP+ only like 25% of park guests used FP-. Now we have close to 100% of park guests using FP+. That's 4 times as many people. So even if those 25% of guests who used FP- pulled 6 FP's a day that was only about half of the total FP that are being pulled now with 100% of guests getting 3 FP+ per day.
Suppose there are 10,000 guests at the Magic Kingdom on a certain day.
Under FP - 25% of those guest would pull 6 FP. 25% of 10,000 = 2,500 people using FP-.
2,500 people pulling 6 FP- = 15,000 total FP- used that day.
Under fP+ 100% of guests receive 3 FP+. 100% of 10,000 = 10,000 people using FP+
10,000 people getting 3 FP+ = 30,000 total FP+ used that day.
Old system = 15,000 FP, new system = 30,000 FP
So if the Standby lines used to be long during FP- (which they were) the standby lines under FP+ would have to be much longer, due to a 100% increase in the use of FPs. This would mean we'd see SB lines twice as long as they used to be, and we are seeing this with Pirates or Haunted Mansion.
Back to the original question: should Disney add a couple FP+ options to Magic Kingdom. Suppose they went to 5 FP per guests. Using my math from above that means there'd be 50,000 FP+ used vs 30,000 now vs 15,000 under FP-. Imagine the standby lines under that scenario! They'd be almost twice as long as they are now.
Listen, I used to pull 6-8 FP per day. I never waited in lines. I'd love to go back to FP-, but that's just not going to happen.
Frankly I'd rather eliminate FP completely. If FP was eliminated the SB lines would all be much shorter.
Frankly, 3 FP just aren't enough. I still have to ride like 15 rides stand by each day. So I'd rather have 18 medium-long waits than 3 ultra-short waits and 15 long waits.
If more FP are added than Standby will not be an option unless you want to wait 60 minutes for Haunted Mansion in low crowd times like Sept.
