Do most schools have Presidents week off in February?

NYC public schools are out that week. However, it isn't Spring Break, it's Mid-Winter Recess. :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Our schools are closed for 7 days in April for Spring Break.

At least your school system isn't trying to sell it to you as your Spring Break like ours is. No one is happy with this change, and we don't get 7 days in April either...we'll get a couple of days around Easter (we used to get 7 days then). The rumor is that someone at BOCES wants to go to Florida in February and instituted this change. I think there would be a little more support for it if we had a Spring Break as well, but really February is a ridiculous time for a week off after a week-plus at Christmas/New Year's and Martin Luther King long weekend in January. If they wanted to give us a set week off instead of tying it to Easter, I would much rather have it in April when we have a shot at decent weather here. Not everyone can afford to travel.

We don't have that off here in Florida. On Long Island they do. The week actually started back in the days of the energy crisis (I know we're in one now) as a way to save money by not heating the schools. The vacation still continues today. Our last year on Long Island, the West Islip school district tried to get rid of it and make it into a 3 day weekend only and everyone pitched a fit, from teachers to parents, so it's still on the calendar.

Here in N CA we just started to get the week off last year. We thought it would be a great time to take a vacation. I can tell you based on the flight and hotel reservations that A LOT of people are going that week. WDW considers it to be one of the busiet weeks of the year. Also the Daytona 500 is that weekend which adds to the crowd. But we are going to try it anyway. How bad can it be !!???

In Chicago public schools, we get the two mondays off--- presidents day and Lincolns b-day :teacher:

Here in MI we have a mid winter break but I can't remember when it is. Sometime in February. Its just a Friday off. Gosh I can't even remember it its a Monday off too. But it was Friday and Monday at the most.

President's week. States where winter skiing is possible always have off during the entire President's week (Most of the northeast and some states out west). This is to encourage people to ski during that week (when the rates are triple!) I would rather go to Florida, than try to ski in New York or New England over President's week. For example - Jay Peak in Vt. is almost entirely booked by the end of August! Many other states just have a long weekend for President's Day. There are NO deals on airfare if you try to fly during that weekend.

I would expect President's week at Disneyworld to have crowds like the end of August (crowded, but do-able). If you can go the week before President's week it would be best!

I love to ski, but summer is best! :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Rochester NY reporting in a Pres. Week vacation. I also believe Syracuse area schools do as well.

That exactly what I remember, too!

Massachusetts schools definitely have that week off, but NH schools actually have the week after. I know this because my boyfriend's son lives in NH (we live in MA) and it always causes problems when we try to plan a vacation.

My nieces live in North Conway, Dover and Somersworth NH, and they all get that week off, so I assumed it was the entire state. Whoops!

Here in the New Orleans area the kids do not get Presidents Week off. They do however get off Mardi Gras week. Which is not the same week next year. That is when you don't want to go to WDW. ::MinnieMo

There are alot of schools in New Jersey that have off the whole week - it's called "Energy Conservation Week" ?? (can you beleive that??) True So expect tons and tons of people from Jerrrrrrrrshy done there!! :rotfl: :rotfl:

WA schools have a week off for President's Day; OR schools do not. When we moved from OR to WA my kids were totally jazzed about a week off...until they realized they don't get out of school for the summer until the 3rd week in June! They just ended the school year yesterday.

Most schools in Litchfield and Hartford Counties in CT have the week or the better part of the week off! It's a tough call to go that week from here though, since you never know if the flights will get out due to snow!

The last day of school here (public schools) is Tuesday, June 28. We have a ton of breaks during the year, so school lets out later. However, we don't return unitl the Thursday after Labor Day.

Tons of breaks is right! My kids have at least two days off every month...even in the months with week-long breaks or long weekends. Good teachers' union up here. ;)

(And before anyone comments, I have friends who are teachers and I know how hard they work and how many off-the-clock hours they put in. God Bless 'em! :goodvibes )

As a previous poster mentioned FL schools don't have off but we do have President's Day off (this is the case for most public schools in FL).

We've been to WDW this weekend and it is pretty busy. The week prior is a great time to go though...low crowds and mostly comfy weather although it can get a bit nippy (but that's fun!!)

This is kinda off topic, but I'm just wondering if people who don't get the week in feb. off have a different week off for a mid-winter break or if they only get spring break in april? Does that make sense what I'm asking lol it makes sense in my head :earboy2: I grew up in MA and always got the week in Feb. off so I think it's really interesting that people don't get that week because I always assumed everyone did. It was always a nice break between X-Mas and Spring Break.

Next year is actually the first year our school is giving off for that week. Apparently a lot of people have been asking for that week off.

This is the first year that we are getting the week off as well. In past years, we've had a 4 day weekend (Friday and Monday off) for President's Day and then a week plus 2 days at Easter. This year, we are getting only 3 days off at Easter (plus the weekend). I would rather have the longer time at Easter, and I haven't talked to anyone here (teacher, parent, or student) who is happy with the new schedule. I guess we'll see how it goes!

Northern California here and our district gets a week in November (thanksgiving), 2 weeks in December/January (Christmas / New Years), one week in February (Presidents week), one week in April (week after Easter).
