Do Member Services always get the points right?

On 2 occasions now I have had a differing points balance to the one given by Member Services. On the first occasion it was in my favour and on the second, in their favour. I have kept detailed records of every DVC stay since becoming a member in 1996 and cannot see where the differences occur.

I assume MS will have sophisticated software for these transactions and that the errors are likely to be mine so I have never queried them. These differences are relatively minor and so I have not raised it with MS.

Has anyone else had inaccuracies?

i have not, evrytime i make a ressies i make sure we both end up with the same amount. but i have read several times about this and most ms was right, i guess they can send you a point tracker of your points but most people say its very difficult to read them, sometimes its a waste of time.

i like caskbill dvc planner, its great and keeps all my points in order. except when we bought a new computer then we had to start all over, but that was not caskbills fault, just ours had to buy a computer, darn:p

Remember MS folks are humans just like us, and are prone to making errors, like most of us. If MS and I disagree, it has most often been my error. I always confirm my points status at the end of every call now. With 3 home resorts, it is a little more difficult to make sure they used points from where I "intended". Sometimes I didn't always tell MS exactly how to use the points, my fault, and the point status check really helps to keep us both in sync.

Errors do happen, but are very rare at least with my 11 years of DVC experience.

It's best to be in the habit of confirming that their total and your total agree everytime you conclude a transaction. I didn't do this myself recently. On the next call, the amount didn't sound right. I checked my records and then called back and we went through my reservations. Turned out they cancelled only one day of a reservation when I had called to cancel two days after a wait list came through. I came close to being a "no show" since I didn't have any idea the reservation was still active.

Great advice from Pam...check your point total balances every time you do a transaction of any kind with MS (reservation, banking, borrowing).

Also, Richyams has a personal story he's shared here about some points that MS "lost" and miraculously "found" several months later.

So yes, it can happen.

I'm assuming you mean the contract information you entered and vacation plans you created. As most know, the DVCPlanner does not actually TRACK points (similar to a spreadsheet), at least not yet.;)

Do you still have the old computer? You can copy the relevant files to the new computer.

All DVCPlanner files are located in C:\DVCPlanner. You can copy the following files to the same location on your new computer.

Copy the DVCInit.DAT file to restore your program startup options.

Copy the UserPoint.DAT file to restore your contract settings.

Copy any files that have a program type of .RPT such as Rep00001.RPT, Rep00002.RPT, and so on, to restore your saved vacations.

Note: If you've already created some new Vacation Plans on the new computer, then rename them before restoring the old files. If your old computer had plans Rep00001 through Rep00012 on it, and your new computer has plans Rep00001 through Rep00003 on it, then rename those files to Rep00013.RPT, Rep00014.RPT, and Rep00015.RPT respectively, then copy the old plans Rep00001.RPT through Rep00012.RPT to the new computer.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll add this to the FAQ's on the download page.

We ask for a faxed copy of the history of our pts use each time after a visit to a DVC resort. This way you can keep updated on it. Call MS and ask them to fax it over to you. They have always been very accomodating to us on this matter.
It is difficult to read but worth it for the peace of mind once you figure it out. And yes they do make mistakes. It happened to us once and luckily someone at MS picked up on it while we were conversing with them on the phone.
