Do many people actually get sick at WDW?

My FH doesn't have much of a stomach for strong smells (particularly, vomit ), so I'm just wondering if many people get sick after being on rides. Or on rides - do we have to worry about projectiles? (Sorry this sounds so gross, but it's a valid concern! )

the only place i have heard of folks getting sick on rides is over at disney quest after they designed their own roller coaster. i have read of guests being queasy for awhile after riding space. i am prone to motion sickness so i know what i can and can not ride and stay off of those that "get" me!

There are also lots of people who get sick on Mission Space...which is why you will find sick bags on the ride!!

Luckily for me the rides dont seem to make me sick. However I have suffered with the heat...which is why I try to go at cooler times of the year.

My mom in 1994 while in MGM somehow got shingles. Shingles is like a bad rash, she got bubblely blisters on the side of her face for two weeks, very nasty disease. Now everytime we go down there we always bring germ-x or something like that.

I have yet to see anyone puke from a ride there... or even in the park.

Though I did puke my way through Animal Kingdom last December! They have very clean bathrooms, I must say =) I never puked in public, I could hold it until I hit the bathroom.

I dont think Disney is unlike any other public place, or theme park. If he can handle hanging with the general public on a daily basis, he won't have a problem with Disney.

This is not true, however, it is true that a some people do get sick during or after Mission:Space. We had to wait while a car was getting cleaned out (not ours) and that almost was the end of the ride for me. Believe me, there isn't a "clean-up" that Disney hasn't handled. P.S. I, myself, got sick at the Grand Californian at Disneyland.

Welcom SkylarkD-- hope you find all the answers you need here at the DIS. I have had a problem on Body Wars-- meaning it was taking literally everything in my power not to "lose it" right there. I would of been mortified. So I imagine some have gotten sick on that ride.

Disney must have people watching for this.
Sometimes those "mechanical problems" that stop your ride, are to let people off, who seem to not be handling it.

My sister and her daughters were let off of Body Wars, part way through the ride. I had the sense not to get on the ride.

I have to close my eyes though portions of Star Tours, to not get sick.
I have to close my eyes during "Soaring over California" but only for a few seconds once in a while. I then ride again, to catch the parts I missed. I missed Tinkerbell the first time, I was glad I went again.

I am wondering if I can handle Mission Space, by closing my eyes when I feel I need to, or if the motion alone will make me sick.

Eileen - don't close your eyes on Mission:Space!! That works on the movie type simulators - those send conflicting messages to your brain - when you close your eyes - the conflict stops.

Mission:Space is actually a centrifuge - so if you close your eyes - your body is still spinning - closing your eyes will actually disorient you even more! For Mission:Space - just keep your head back - eyes open and enjoy the ride! I was really nervous about this one - but survived it with no ill effects! I too have to close my eyes for parts of Body Wars - although I can do Star Tours with no trouble.

PS - for those of you worried about germs - don't worry - shingles, while nasty, is NOT something you can catch, although someone who hasn't had chickenpox can catch it from you if you have shingles! Shingles is just the chicken pox virus which lives dormant in your nerve endings - it is in everyone who has had the chickenpox. For some reason - it flares up in some people when they are stressed or if their immune system is compromised for some reason.

It is true they do have vomit bags on the ride NOW they did not at first but they do now.

Someone got sick on Rock and Roll roller coaster last time we were there, we had to wait for them to clean it up.

Shingles is not a contagious disease. It is a neurological condition.

In December, we also saw a grown man sitting in his own vomit in the "car" next to the one we were supposed to get into! I felt soooo bad for him.

They do have bags on the ride, that should be your first hint!

Also, the recorded message in the que(sp?) states many times NOT TO CLOSE YOUR EYES!!! It will make motion sickness worse!!

I also got sick on Body Wars in 1994 and will NOT EVER go on that again. (Although closing my eyes on that did help! )

I really don't think I will go on Mission Space again either, glad I did it once though!

If you had chickenpox -- you can get shingles.
If you have NOT had chickenpox -- you can get chickenpox.
Either way, you can still catch something.

Shingles is an infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus, which is the virus that causes chickenpox. The disease generally affects the elderly, although it occasionally occurs in younger and/or immunodeficient individuals. When I now retired boss was pregnant with one of her sons she made a trip to WDW and said that due to acute morning sickness she "got to look at the base of every bush in Epcot!"

In all previous 26 trips I've never seen THAT sort of sick at the parks.
Did see it several times at Pleasure Island as the drunks did their thing..

Thank you guys! I knew that I hadn't imagined sick bags on Mission Space. The first time I had visited they werent on there, however the second time they had put them on. Apparently the cms are fed up of having to clear up the pods!Ugh!
