Do Magic Bands Stay On? Worried about losing them.

My granddaughter broke the pegs off after opening and closing often. After we got her a backup, she lost that one too, but it was returned. We just returned in May and she lost another one. We take backup bands now. The kids can't stand wearing them, but neither do we. I carry mine in my shoulder bag and husband carries his in his pocket. We are always switching bands for FP when someone doesn't want to ride so we are constantly exchanging bands.

I lost one last year while taking a back pack on and off. (I think). The clasp\connection system is not that tight and is something I'm now worried about again for our upcoming trip. It wasn't horrible as my resort replaced it immediately. It's just that I went from a customized color one to the gray.

This trip I bought bitbelts made for magic bands for my children. They have adult sized ones too. We have never had one fall off but just wanted to be sure the kids wouldn't lose them. I use the childs size as the adult magic band is way to big for me. Here are coupon codes that work for them (bitbelt) just make sure you choose the right size (adult or child)

Buy 2, Save $2 ($1.00 off each)

Never had a problem with mine. I end up removing the gray outer part to avoid having two inches of unnecessary plastic digging into my wrist. Between the clasp and "glue" formed from perspiration and sunscreen that baby is stuck on lol. Maybe it is because I only use the holes on the colored part where the plastic is thicker, but getting mine on and off requires some force.

I suspect many of the lost bands are from someone not pushing the pins in completely. If you just barely make connection then yes, I bet they do fall off easily. If you push it through tightly I think the chance of them just falling off is slim

I have also encountered a lot, and I mean a lot, of people who do not reduce the size the the bands for kids. I lost track of how many folks I've helped with that. Most tell me even the CMs have no clue that they can be made smaller. I bet some lost ones are also from kids who had the grey portion left on and the band was never small enough.

So yeah, it's possible to loose one but most of the time that's from some error of some sort.

I heard a CM at Haunted Mansion suggest to a dad that he size his daughter's down for comfort and to make swiping work better for FP (they were having issues getting the girl's to scan) and he looked at her like she asked him to cut off the girl's arm and left it as is. Even as an adult I size mine so it isn't doubled around my wrist.

Everyone on my trip had no issues with their bands. They stayed on the whole trip, no problems!

On our recent 10 night stay we had no problem with them coming off. What surprised me was our 12 yr old son who has sensory issues and will never wear any jewelry kept his on the whole day. Our sons wore them at the water parks on the water slides with no problems.

The slider tip is a great one that I'll have to remember! My kids had no issues with them, but I did during the first trip I used one. I had it on my left wrist, and often when I would pick up or put down my DS (I usually carry him on my left hip), my band would fall off. Fortunately, I always felt it falling and was able to grab it. For our most recent trip, I kept my band on my right wrist because I had a watch on my left, and I had no issues with the band.

Thank you for all the helpful replies. I may get some sliders for peace of mind.
Thanks!!

My husband lost his twice, probably while taking off his backpack.

They close with little nubs like an adjustable hat would. DS14 broke the nubs off his. He didn't find it comfortable to wear so he kept taking it off and I guess too many times on and off caused them to break. He ended up carrying it around in his pocket and taking it out when needed. We did have an extra that I threw into my purse just in case he lost it.

Went with a group of eight last summer and my four year old did lose his. We were on a split stay and had two sets of bands as a result so just needed to activate the replacement band. But yes, it is possible to lose them. I am sure someone mentioned bitbelt bands somewhere on this thread http://bitbelt.com/Disney-MagicBand_c6.htm

I would NOT get one of these for adults, but maybe for a kids. But honestly, as people have already said, more than likely you will not lose a magic band and won't even need it.

My band came undone several times when I was reaching for things in the stroller, in a bag...etc. Basically the clasp bumps stuff and can pop off. My son lost his in the pool a few times but we found it within minutes as it made us very paranoid about it. I bought the BitBelts, but then left them at home :(. They would make a huge difference and I will use them from here on out. We ended up using a strip of duct tape across where the two straps meet and that kept them in place...it may not have looked the coolest, but it worked.

My DH lost his while we were at MK last year. To this day, we don't know exactly what happened, but it had to have been lost somewhere on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train or on the Magic Kingdom Railroad (or on the way from one to the other). After we got off of the train in Frontierland, we went to Big Thunder to use our Fastpasses, and DH's band was gone. We were panicking a bit. The CMs at the entrance to Big Thunder were very helpful and radioed to see if someone had found it, but it was nowhere to be found. They still let us use our Fastpasses at Big Thunder AND at Splash Mountain, going off of my Magic Band and taking our word for it. That was pretty cool since those were our last two rides before taking our midday break, so our plans were unaffected. Whew! As we left MK, we hopped over to Guest Relations and got set up for a new band. When we came back to MK later in the evening, we checked back there again out of curiosity to see if it had been turned in/found. Nothing.

I don't know that this matters, but my DH is a pretty big guy (6'4", about 250 lbs., and very muscular). I remember his band fitting fine, though....

I think this year we'll probably check each others' wrists after every ride. :)

I am wondering about how well the Magic Bands stay on, and if I should order something like a Bit Belt to help keep them in place. I'm travelling with my 4 and 6 year-old nephews, and worried about them losing their bands. Thanks!!

I have never worn my Magic Band. But I use it all the time. I just put it into my small bag, take it out when I need it, put it away when I don't. Just because they are bands doesn't mean you have to wear them.

My dS-6 lost his at Honey I shrunk the kids. When we noticed, we went back and the CM had just sent "a bunch" of MB to guest relations. I was able to change the statusof the MB to lost on MDE. We stopped at Guest relations on our way out and they had it.
