Do Laundry Or Pack More???

I vote for doing laundry. Of course, we have two toddlers, so it's inevitable that they will make a mess on everything - including clean clothes sitting in a drawer!! With little ones, though, you have time to do the laundry when they are sleeping or swimming. When we were without kids, we tried to get by without doing laundry. Kids - that was the difference for us.

We also take the Tide tablets with and Bounce fabric softener sheets. Also, each load (washer and dryer) was $2 in quarters and of course, the change machine was broken. Pack enough quarters to make it through all your laundry, plus extra in case a machine eats your money.

Its a vacation, don't do laundry, there will be time for that at home. When we go on vacation I don't cook, or do laundry, otherwise it wouldn't be a vacation. We pack enough, and if we don't have enough for 10 days we buy more, I usually add the expense of new clothes in the vacation budget and then it is fun buying them to get ready to go.

Enjoy.:bounce: :smooth: :o :p

I don't do any laundry while on vacation. It's my least favorite thing to do at home and I don't want to do it while I'm away ;) I bring enough for the amount of time we will be there and I'm able to fit it in one suitcase.

We've just come back after being in Orlando for 2 weeks. I did 2 loads of laundry (1 each week) - on the days we were staying by the hotel pool. Let me tell ya - I was so happy when I got home and wasn't facing bags and bags of dirty clothes - one load into the machine and I was done! Now, if I could only get around to ironing it...

I'm an early riser, my DH and Grandchildren are not. So in the early morning hour's I do laundry while Disney sleeps. I'm usually the only one there.

A week at Disney does produce a lot of dirty cloths.

We usually go to the parks in the morning, go back to the resort for a swim in the afternoon. After a shower, who's going to put the same dirty socks, underwear or shirt on. I know it's vacation, I'm not camping in the wilderness here and I need clean cloths.
So 4 people, 7 day at Disney. Thats 56 pairs of socks, etc. etc. Thats a lot of dirty cloths. I think I wash while at Disney.

I actually enjoy doing laundry because I don't get to do it at home. (Yes, I know how boinky that sentence sounds.)

Let me explain: at home, I take my laundry out and have it done by a service. This is massively convenient and it's very normal in my neighborhood. My apartment building does not have laundry facilities, so it's kind-of my only option.

However, whenever I travel, I try to pick places that I can do laundry at. No, that is not the main criteria; it's more of a bonus.

When I discovered the Old Key West a few years ago, I was in heaven with the washer/dryer in the villa.

So, for this upcoming trip, I plan on packing light and doing laundry as I need to. However, my buddy who is going has already told me that she has no desire to do any laundry and will not be appreciating the convenience of the washer/dryer in our villa.

Hey...to each his own. Right?

-Kungaloosh!

I always do laundry on trips. I never wait in the laundry room either and I usually go back to my room to watch tv. I figure if someone wants my crappy clothes that bad enough, they can have them.

Everyone is different, but I can honestly tell you that I have NEVER done laundry on vacation ... even when it was a trip of 12 days.

There have been different trips that I think I will probably do a load or two, but the reality is that I never have.

As long as everyone has clean underwear, we get by.

This past December we (four of us) went on the 4-day Wonder cruise, followed by six nights at the Polynesian. I didn't get to do laundry on the ship so I washed our dirty clothes the evening that we checked into the Polynesian (Thursday), since we weren't going to the parks or anything anyway. I also did laundry early Sunday morning because I hate when dirty clothes pile up. Our next stay will be at BWV; we'll have a washer/dryer in our room so that'll come in handy. At home, I usually do the bulk of the laundry on the weekend, but I also do one load mid-week. Am I a laundry freak or what? :p

OK here is a related story....

We were at AKL last trip, went with my parents. We(actually, DW) always do laundry while we are there. Gives her a break from the kids and a chance to relax. My mom said she would do wash and watch the kids so that we could head over to PI for the evening, who could argue!

We got back and the laundry was done! Folded and put away! She also mentioned that the kids loved the arcade...oh that's good we had a great time at PI and....what arcade? The one near the laundry. Oh, so we really love the Adventurers' Club...How much do I owe you for the arcade? Nothing I found the $30 in the luggage they went through the whole $30 in about 15 minutes. What $30? The $30 in quarters that you had in your luggage. The $30 in quarters that we saved for 4 months that were for the quarter and penny stamping machines? The $30 in rolled quarters that my DW got searched for, at the airport, because all the x-ray machine saw were cylindrical metal objects? Yes, that $30...so the kids had fun, that's good.

Wasn't that funny at the time. I just kept seeing my DW having to take off her shows at the airport...Fun Fun Fun!

I have always used the W/D at the resorts. If your staying at a Moderate, the washer and dryers are located near the quiet pools. Go for a swim, relax, enjoy, get clean clothes, pack less. How much of a problem, or time wasted is that ?

That's my $.02

On our last trip I planned to do laundry and LOVED IT! We were there for 9 days, and had 2 adults, a 2 year old and a 9 month old. I was able to pack all our stuff in 2 20" suitcases and 2 carry on bags. That made it so much easier to manage in the airports, with luggage, strollers, kids and car seats. I will never again try to manage enough clothes for that long of a trip for the 4 of us. I just picked color coordinated stuff, and everything matched a couple different things so it didn't feel like we were in the same clothes the entire trip.

And while it is true that unlike home you can't leave a load in the dryer overnight, at home I don't have a fleet of washers and dryers that allow me to run several loads at one time!

I, too, am an early riser and don't mind doing laundry while on vacation. We usually stay at the AllStars and I do the laundry while DH, DS and DD are sleeping. After I put the clothes in the dryer I take breakfast to my gang so that when the clothes are dry, my family will be ready to roll. I enjoy the quiet time at a table by the pool and catch up on my trip notes. During a 10 day trip I will do laundry twice, 2-3 loads each time. I will not do it on a MK or AK Early Entry day! All four of us tend to spill food on ourselves, so 2 outfits a day is the norm. My goal for the next trip is not to have any checked luggage, at least on the way down! I packed the Wisk tablets and they worked fine and used a stain stick at the end of each day. I hate the thought of taking ruined clothes home because I couldn't be bothered to wash them. We have also done laundry at midday while the kids are swimming. If it weren't this convenient, I may not bother. To each his own...do what feels comfortable to you.

We were in Orlando 10 nights last year and did laundry twice.

The first time I did the laundry (day 4) while DH and the girls napped. The second time DH did the laundry (day 8) and took our older DD with him, while I stayed in the room with our napping 2 year old.

With children, especially a toddler, there is no way I could pack enough clothes for the entire trip. Plus, it was so hot that DH and I were changing our clothes most evenings also.

This year we will be at the BWV's nights 3-7 of our 10 night trip, and we'll have a w/d in the room. I'm really looking forward to this convienance!

For some reason I cannot stand dirty laundry especially packing it up to go home. I just don't like putting it in the suitcases dirty. I always do the laundry while my boys swim. I think it works out great.

Laundry on vacation.....no way:bounce: 73 days until we leave for the House of Mouse, The Big Cheese!

I always do laundry on vacation ... where ever that vacation might bring me. We've done laundry in Kyoto (Japan), London, Lyon, and yes WDW. It's not such a big deal (OK, Kyoto was :)) we just pack laundry tablets, dryer sheets and dye magnets sheets. We also have a collapsible mesh and wire laundry basket where all the dirty clothes end up. We tend to vacation at least a week and usually longer. I can't imagine taking a full vacation's worth of clothes with me. Our limit is 5 days and we still end up with a bunch of bags :(.

I only do laundry on our Christmas trip and that's due to the changing weather. You have to pack a little of eveything.

We always do laundry on our down or pool days. I hate to come home with dirty laundry.... We are in the villas for part of our stay so we have a washer and dryer, But, we also do laundry when we spend time at a resort laundry room.If I were home I would never let laundry sit for a week.
