Do Laundry Or Pack More???

I did laundry while DS swam in the All Star Sports Pool. I plan to do the same thing when we go this summer.

We will be there for 8 days. We wear 2 sets of clothes each day. There's no way I'm packing 36 outfits. I'll do laundry on the fourth day of our trip and then again the day before we leave. I hate the idea of traveling with dirty clothes.

I don't mind doing laundry on vacation, just don't ask me to COOK.;)

I have never done laundry on any of our 6-9 night trips, and yes I do have a DH and 2 young daughters (who have been as young as 9 mo and 3 years on our trips). I plan the clothing out meticulously, using the zip lock bag trick, but still have an ongoing battle with my husband about my tendency to overpack. One reason I choose to vacation in Disney is to escape from the hassles of everyday life, so doing laundry would be a gross violation of fantasy-reality separation.

Now that being said, this year will be a challenge given that our stay is a record 10 nights long for us. But believe me, I will do everything in my power to avoid washing clothes!

Just keep thinking about the sound of a dryer buzzer while you're packing..it's all the incentive you'll need!;)

We did it for a 14 day trip in late December when you have to pack for all types of weather. We didn't have kids, but it was an all girl trip and none of us know how to pack light, so I guarantee it can be done!

You just have to hate doing laundry bad enough.

Another vote for not doing laundry on vacation!

I grew up in a family of 6 children. If my mom can pack enough clothes for 6 kids and 2 adults, then anyone can! We each had one duffle bag a piece. She never did laundry on family vacations. (We would dump our dirty clothes into a garbage sack.) Our last family vacation was 5 years ago to WDW..........

My fiance' and I are going to WDW for 10 days in December and we plan to pack enough clothes so we don't have to do laundry. Doing laundry on vacation, I think not!! It's my vacation from chores! No cooking, no laundry!

edited: Forgot to mention most of our family vacations lasted 10 days...

How many of you that go for a week plan to do laundry and actually do it? I don't mind doing laundry vs. packing enough clothes for 7 days (with some extra in case) but is it realistic to think there will be time to do laundry? We'll be staying at CBR. Thanks for your advice!

I always take too much and still do laundry! I seem to never wear everything I bring since I tend to have favorites. So this time I'm cutting down on what I bring since I won't wear half the stuff. I usually do laundry only once midway through the trip. Our trips range from 10-15 days. I wait until my little one is asleep and leave my mother to watch her. It really relaxes me to sit and veg out after a hectic day in the parks. I always meet the nicest people in the laundry area! LOL! As a matter of fact, I just went to the store today to get those laundry tabs to pack and I'm not even going until the end of April. :D

When we used to stay at the Poly and the Beach Club, we always did laundry at least once during our 7 day trips. It was always a major pain in the --well, you know.
Often all the machines were being used. Once, one lady was using FOUR machines and 3 dryers all at the same time!! On other occasions, one (or more ) of the washers or dryers wasn't operational. Another time I left the clothes in the dryer and took a short workout. When I got back, my clothes (still damp) were on the floor, and somebody else had put theirs in the dryer!!

Anyway--now we stay at the 1 bedroom at OKW and have our own washer/dryer. What a treat!!

I never did laundry until 2 years ago when we went to Hawaii. With the time difference we were awake at 3 am anyway, so there was no one in the laundry room. Now, I always do laundry on vacation. What a treat to pack less! One of the reasons why we like staying in a villa.

I have pretty much always done a load or 2 of laundry on any trip we take too. I can't stand waiting for bag after bag after bag to come off the conveyor at the airport either-lol! And it seems like everyone's look the same even with out special ties or ribbons. This past Christmas we all got hard-sided Samsonite luggage in black and I exchanged it for some in bright red and bright blue-hopefully easier to find-lol!

Doing laundry on vacation depends on what you want to bring, etc... The past 2 trips to WDW we have done laundry because we were there when the daily temps were in the 90's and the humidity was in the 90's as well. You can't come back to your room and shower and then put on dirty clothes-ugh! So we were going thru at least 2 outfits per day and sometimes a third depending on what our late-night plans were. The next trip we take will be in January and with the changeable temps we'll have to pack a range of clothing so we will be doing laundry again. Too bad you can't pay the concierge to do that for ya! Just kidding :)

The trend here seems to be that folks that say NO to doing laundry consider it a big chore while the folks that say YES to laundry do not consider it a big deal at all and enjoy not having to lug as much stuff on vacation.

I'm in the second category. I want to clean as we go, about every 3 days. I do NOT want to lug 10 days of clean clothes for four people on vacation and certainly not 10 days of dirty laundry home with me.

We didn't do laundry our first trip and had way to much stuff to take to the airport.

Every trip since then we have done laundry. Usually in the middle of the trip. We put the laundry in--usually only 2 loads--and then go back to the room to nap or to the pool. We then go back and put it in the dryer and nap or swim again.

We will always do laundry.

I always tried to avoid doing laundry on vacation 'til I ended up having to do it one time at POFQ. When I realized it really wasn't a hassle, I did it on all our later trips. We own DVC now, so even when we stay in a studio, we do laundry. We use it as "scheduled down time" by the pool. :)

Let me start by saying "I HATE DOING LAUNDRY"!!! I've known to let it pile up for days at home. However, on our last trip, I did laundry halfway through the trip and found that it was actually pretty painless.

The laundry room is right next to the quiet pool and I was able to do three loads at once. The whole process took about an hour and a half. And we didn't have to worry about a bunch of dirty clothes to carry home!

I give doing laundry a YES vote!

I absolutely refuse to do laundry on vacation. At home I don't mind doing it (like I have a choice!), but while I'm on vacation laundry is one thing I don't even want to think about. We go in January and have always had to pack for a wide range of tempreatures, but with some creating packing I've never had to worry about doing laundry.

That being said, the last couple years it has been myself, DH and DD (who is 4). Next January we'll add DS to the mix (he'll be 2). Hopefully I'll still be able to manage without doing the laundry.

I would pack extra. We were at the WL in February and I had decided to do laundry before we left. There were only 6 washers and I think 8 dryers. Washers were 2.00 per load and dryers were 1.00 for 15 minutes (not near enough time). I did go back to the room and wait insead of waiting in the laundry. But it was still a hassle. Not to mention, I think that was the day everyone else had wanted to do laundry too. Oh...if you do decide to do laundry, take your own supplies. I bought Wisk tablet samples at the store and put Bounce sheets in a zip lock bag. If you use liquid fab softner I would either buy a very small container or put yours in a pourable container and put it in a ziplock bag. If you are flying laundry may be your best bet to cut down on your luggage but if you are driving, don't do the laundry. I would not recommend it. I will never (well, at least try not to) do laundry again. Just my two cents here.

Pack more..........................................I would never do laundry on vacation or cook.......Then it is not a vacation for me.....

Better yet........use the laundry service provided by the hotel. I never send any delicates, but cotton clothing is fine:) We always pack carry -ons when going away for a week. We do not have any children however, which makes the difference. I find it very convenient - espically when you do 2 destinations in 1 trip, the airlines can never lose your luggage! Its a matter of planning, shopping for travel size products and a good set of luggage. You are allowed 2 carry ons per person, I pack a set for my husband and myself, 4 bags total. Even with carry ons I still over pack and have clothes that were not worn - then again we do not have children that get stuff on your clothes.

single parent here.... I can't do laundry unless I drag my dd with me or we're travelling with another adult.

So... I never plan to do laundry. (I did on our last trip in december at CR south wing. Just didn't bring enough cold-weather clothes!!!)

What I did do was pack a duffle bag in my suitcase. Loaded it up with the dirty clothes for the trip home, and had plenty of room for souveniers!

I always do laundry on vacation.i hate bringing home DIRTY CLOTHES:( it is only my DH and myself,we still bring way to many clothes, but i guess we just have our favorites.;)
