Do kids still make "pasta wreaths" in school?

I remember being in elementary school, back in the early 80's and in the winter, we all made wreaths out of dried pasta. Then we'd spraypaint the with silver and gold paint and bring them home.

I don't know what made me think of it, but do kids still make these?

Just wondering. I always thought they were so cute. My mom still has mine and my brother's.

I'm not sure about where you guys live what is culturally acceptable but over here in New Zealand we in early childhood centres have stopped using food as a play tool.

it is seen as some cultures as an insult to play with food when many are starving.

I still remember mine back in the old days like when it was okay to ride a bike before a a bike helmet, okay to climb trees, etc..

We made garbage bag wreaths- I don't remember how many garbage bags we used, but they were the white ones and we cut them up into strips and tied them around wire hanger circles- very fluffy and actually pretty cute! I think my mom still has mine, too.

I should start compiling a list of fun, crafty things to do with my (nonexistent) kids someday before I forget them. I completely forgot about the garbage bag wreaths until you mentioned your pasta wreaths!

At the preschool I taught at and my children attended, food was used in crafts only if it was going to be eaten. Way too many people doing without food to use it that way -- a sentiment I totally agree with.

One example of a food we used -- Fruit Loops to make necklaces. The kids work on their fine motor skills to make them, wear them as Indian beads with their Thanksgiving costumes, then eat them for dessert on the way home!
