Do kids become Castaway members, too?

My post earlier about not booking another cruise while onboard got me thinking. Someone mentioned that sometimes, DCL sends out a 10% off coupon to new cruisers. Not sure if this will happen (and not counting on it either) but I am curious about this. DH and I are previous cruisers, my kids are not (however now are since we came off a week ago). Will they get a number assigned to them and cards? Or is it just for the adults? Thanks!

Yes. Every person gets their own Castaway Club number, once they've completed one cruise.

They may not get a physical card (not many people seem to get those lately) but kids definitely get assigned a CC number. Our kids are Platinum now as adults (in their 30's) from their cruises with us when they were kids.

Yep, my three kids all got them automatically. So, unfortunately, your kids are most likely in the DCL system and probably won't be part of any "new cruiser" promotional mailings. Plus, assuming they are minors, Disney doesn't send promotional marketing to kids anyway.

I think your best bet is to plunk down a deposit on a cruise as far out as possible to get your best non-discounted rate. If, by some miracle, you or your husband receive a code/voucher, check and see if it can be applied to your existing reservation. If not, then you can do the math and see if it makes more sense to keep your existing reservation (without the discount), or to cancel it and rebook (with the discount).

Quick question for the OP- did your children get Castaway Club Lanyards with you? We are in the same situation- husband and I are Castaway Club members but kids aren't, I was trying to decide if I needed to buy them lanyards or if they would get the silver ones?

I don't think the kids would get them until they are cc members (after their first cruise). We were recently on the Fantasy and only those returning CC members got lanyards and not new cruisers (even in the same stateroom) as returning cruisers.

We've cruised more than our kids so there were cruises we got silver lanyards and they got none, we got gold and they got silver and so on.

You could always bring a couple of your older lanyards from your previous cruise with you and give them to the kids. And when you check in, you would have 2 new ones for you and DH and the kids would have them too. No need to buy any.

Yep -- our daughter got her CC card after our first cruise in 2000 -- she was 12 at the time.

CC numbers are assigned at checkin for new sailors. It's the number on your KTTW card.
Prevoius sailors will notice the same number on all their KTTW cards,

My kids did not get any lanyards. Only we did. We gave them ours though because we didn't want them losing their keys when they were able to carry them!

Kids are absolutely CC members. I have a little 8-year-old cousin that's platinum!

Disney does send promotional material to kids. My daughter and I had annual passes to WDW a couple of years ago (she was 7 when it expired) and she received a bunch of promotional mail that I did not!
