Do I Want A Pool View AKL?

We're thinking of upgrading to AKL from ASMo (though we love Movies and will be happy to stay there), but there is only pool view available for our dates. Do we want a pool view? We aren't really pool people. Anyone stay pool view and hate it? Too loud? Any thoughts?

We stayed at the AKL in June 2004. Deluxe, pool view room on the 5th floor and we loved it! Try to get the 4th or 5th floor, otherwise, your view might be obstructed. It was not noisey at all and we had two little ones taking naps everyday. The view was very beautiful at night because the pool and surrounding areas are illuminated. We loved sitting out on the balcony after we put our kids in bed. You won't be disappointed. Have fun.

We just got back from AKL pool view last week and it was great. We were in 5424 (5th floor). It was a perfect room, great view & pretty quiet. I would highly recommend it! I have pics of the room/view if you'd like to see them just let me know.

I had a pool view a couple months ago 5th floor 5410# it was so beautiful!! I would get a pool view again , it was nice to sit on the balcony at night.

You know... we had a savannah view when we were there and we did see a few animals but I saw more when I went outside and walked around or looked out the community view windows.
If I were to stay there again I would get a pool view . At least you would have something to look at ... most of the time we looked at a few trees.
You just don't know where or when the animals will be out.
If I were you.... yup..... pool view!!!!!

Keep in mind, the AKL pool is absolutely gorgeous! It isn't like looking at a Motel 6 pool! LOL! And I think it would be a quick elevator ride to the Mara and such.

We stayed pool view last September and loved it. We have pool view booked next week and I sure hope they don't upgrade us to Savannah as I would not want to have to make that choice! The pool is so pretty!

I really have to say that AKL is a destination unto itself. Pool view should be wondeful. You will have access to the Savannah view via Arusha Rock. The thing is, there's just too much going on at AKL that makes it stand out as it's own destination. The architecture, the organized children's activities (such as campfire story telling and nature talks) and the overall ambience of the resort. If you have the opportunity to go there, even though ASM is nice, you're in a win-win scenario.

If I had to sum things up, I'd simply say "DO IT!"

Sounds great. We booked a Pool View for it's close proximity to everything compared to some of the Savannah view rooms. From these accounts, sounds like we will be very happy we did.

We are thinking of AKL for this summer and pool view is what I will book. The area is beautifully landscaped and very lush and the pool is meant to look like a watering hole. While it is very pretty, I would mostly book for the location. This resort has halls that go on for ages. Some rooms seems miles out. The pool is close to the lobby, food court, restaurants and gift shop. "Pool view" therefore guarantees you are close to everything, and is more reasonably priced besides. Go for it!

We had a savannah view and it was nice, but I would book a pool view if we went again. you can see the animals from just about anywhere. pool view will give you a shorter walk to most places.

We had a pool view and we could see animals during feeding time just beyond the pool area (giraffes one day, ankole cattle another day). We weren't as close to them as someone in a savannah room would be, but it was fun watching them from our balcony.

We went in October and we had a Savannah view which I felt so smug about! However the walk to the end of the Savannah to the room was unbelievable !!! It was sooooo long the enjoyment of the Savannah soon wore off as we made that long walk every day.

If I go there again I am going to book a pool view as I know that it is a very limited walk, and the rooms will be near the restaurants etc!

On our 2003 trip my MIL and FIL had a pool view room and I liked it better than our savannah view. (But then I'm a water person.) I LOVED the pool there. It is just gorgeous! I'd sleep in the gift shop at AKL. It was one of my favorite hotels ever!

We have stayed at the AKL four times since it opened in April 2001 and will be back for our fifth stay this coming Jan 2005.

We have stayed in pool view rooms twice and savanna view concierge rooms twice. We are booked to stay in a regular savanna view room this coming Jan.

To answer your question, yes. If you can afford the pool view room at the AKL without over taxing your vacation budget then do it. In my opinion you cannot compare the AKL to any of the value resorts. The experiance of the AKL is outstanding. I would reconmend going into debt to stay there or at any resort for that matter, so if you can swing it finaincally go for it.

We went in August and had a pool view. It was on the 1st floor and at first we thought we would hate it and there would be too much noise. As it turned out it was a great location. It was so close to the pool and a quick trip to the Mara with the refillable mugs. Our room had bunk beds which our kids (DD-12 and DS-8) thought were fantastic.

I agree that AKL is such a wonderful hotel, I wouldn't worry about the room. We are going back next summer and considering a Standard room so that we can stay more nights.

Whatever you do enjoy the magic!!!!

I agree with just about everything that everyone has said!

Ya know, we had a pool view booked and we were given a complimentary upgrade to a savannah view. I was not crazy about it! We spent a lot of time at the pool and I would gaze longingly at those rooms, wishing I would not have taken the upgrade! I bet the view is gorgeous at night!

My only concern would be noise, especially since the pool is open 24 hours. But apparently, according to the other posters, that is not an issue.

Have fun. You will love taht resort! But beware...you will be addicted to the deluxes and not want to stay anywhere else!

Pool room is nice. I would surely recommend it. You may wish a savannah view, but that is hit and miss as has been discussed on these boards many times.

Thanks for your replies everyone! For some reason I didn't get any e-mail notification abbout this thread, so I had mistakenly thought no one had replied! What a nice surprise!

So we went ahead and booked ASMo, but are still considering an upgrade if things work out. After seeing that picture dischick posted I have a much different idea of what the pool view is like! I had no idea. AKL is our dream resort. I am afraid it will spoil us for any other experiance. This may sound funny, but if we do not upgrade, it will be because we probably won't be able to afford AKL for EVERY trip (we are trying to keep this an annual vacation), so we don't want to "open that can of worms" so to speak.
