i am wondering about if i need to get travel insurance. my soon to be wife and i will be going from 12/14-12/24 on our honeymoon. seeing as how it won't be hurricane season, why would we need to get it, and is it worth it?

Where are you travelling from?

If you are satisfied that your medical cover applies there, your household policy covers loss of bags and are willing to take the risk that you will not have to cancell the vacation for any reason and therefore lose the costs then you could do without.

No one would travel from the UK without it.

I've never used travel insurance EVER before. This is our first "family" trip with me being the mom and not the kid and decided better be safe then sorry. I'd rather spend the $ and know I'm covered. Hopefully we won't have to use it, but if we need it at least I know its there.

I know this is an usual situation, but DH's cousin got married a few years ago and they had planned a 12-day trip to Hawaii (about the same $ as Disney at Christmas!). Two weeks before the wedding, the bride had bad headaches and passed out at work (luckily, she was an ICU nurse). Unfortunately, she had a brain aneurysm and needed immediate surgery. They had the wedding, but she couldn't fly for a whole year because of the cabin pressure.

They had trip insurance and got every penny back.

Obviously, I hope this doesn't happen to you or anyone. My point is that you never know what could happen. They went on to have a terrific honeymoon on their one-year anniversary.

Good luck.

We didn't purchase insurance for our upcoming trip. Unfortunately, my grandmother has since been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer :sad1: . And most insurance policies won't cover pre-existing conditions. So even if we took the insurance now, chances are we won't be covered anyway.

We are prepared to come home early, or not even go at all. It just stinks that we're going to loose so much money. If we had just taken the insurance, this wouldn't be an issue. That's what I get for being so cheap. :rotfl:

Life throws you lemons. Be prepared.

This is the first year we took out the insurace.

We are going during hurrican season.

If we would of taken out the insurace on our last 2 trips we would of used it!

I dropped the camera - would of been covered
DS had to goto ER and we missed our NYE Epcot day - would of been covered too!

Rather be safe than sorry.

God forbid your Grandma die I think you would be covered.

Our family told us if something happens they are not even going to tell us till we get home.

I have always, always, always travelled with travel insurance. I firmly agree with other posters that it's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it! It helps for things other than medical expenses, depending on the coverage you get. And it really isn't that expensive.

I'm going in September along with 2 friends. We're all between 25 and 30, and for our 10 day trip, the cost is 33$. So less than 100$ total, and if -anything- at all happens, we don't have to worry. I'm willing to pay that for peace of mind!

It's kind of weird but my friend's Grandmother did pass away while we were at Disney gosh, about 8 years ago. His grandmother was very ill and in a nursing home. When his father called, he said there was nothing we could do anyway so just stay and they'd have the funeral when we got back. There wasn't much family so noone was waiting around to bury grandma.

I imagine it happens more often than we think.

I bought my insurance through Disney Travel, but I think there are probably better deals out there.

Think about these questions.

Can you afford to throw the money from your holiday away should you not go for <insert reason> ? ie medical, work, death in the family, disney closes, airline goes bust etc etc

Can you afford to buy another flight should something happen? ie airline goes bust, you need to get back early, or you miss your flight

Can you afford to replace your luggage should it go missing?

Will your healthcare cover you?

Can you afford to replace valuables that have been lost/stolen on your holiday?

Insurance is worth it in the even something happens. You pay house and car insurance every year and nothing happens. Holiday's are the same. You may never use the insurance but should something happen you will wish you had it.
